Looking for a buffalo hunt. Wife said one would look good on the wall, so I have the green light. Looking for an old bull

I want one. Good luck to you!

I'm into the look of wall pedestals. Here is something for you to consider:

I drew a Wyoming bison tag 8 years ago. Got a monster bull, but made the mistake of not doing a shoulder mount. They do make a very nice mount. The meat is the best game meat out there, in my humble opinion. Good luck in your search.

is it safe to assume buffalo hunts in Texas are high fenced operations, nothing against it just genuinely curious.

6 states offer bison hunts recognized by B&C and I believe SD's bison are high fenced but other 5 states are not.
Bison hunts are all pretty much high fence or electric fence hunts except for hunts offered by the states.
Canada and NW Terr. also have wild, free range bison.

We guide hunts in Utah book cliffs which is basically a once in a lifetime tag. I can tell you there is not really any difference between those hunts of H/F hunts

I hunted Twin Pines Buffalo Ranch in WY back in 15 or 16. By no means was this a drive up and shoot. They have 17000 acres. We stalked our buffalo up a steep draw to another series of meadows. It was over a mile stalk and I took my buffalo at 195 yards. One of the funniest hunts I've ever been on, not to mention I had to work for my buffalo! I dropped mine with a custom model 70 .300 WSM in a AAA walnut grade Weatherby Mark 5 style stock.

If I were wanting a big bull specifically for the wall I would certainly wait until winter or late fall to take one. They hides are much thicker and nicer looking.
I will say a late winter hunt in Wyoming is not for faint of heart. It will be bitter cold and quite snowy in most areas, wild / free range or ranch hunt.
Hunt before Jan. for better conditions.
These 2 cows were taken in January hunts on the National Elk Refuge, Wyoming state tags.
The hides are thick beautiful. Bulls taken at that time would be nice shoulder mounts. We opted for full tanned hides on both.

I would inquire of the gentleman on here with bulls for sale, how much to add a few extra months of grass feed for a December harvest ? If you want big and wooly, or this time of the year for a classic looking short hair mount.

Top 2 pics are a 6 1/2 year old cow, bottom pic was a 4 1/2 year old cow. Both aged and processed ourselves except for the burger. Excellent meat.

We have to drive through the Twin Pines to get to my girlfriends family cabin at the base of Laramie Peak. Usually have to stop due to a buffalo jam along the road. Saw lots of elk in 2019. I could definitely spend my summers there. But I don't want any part of the winters! Beautiful bull!

That's my $.02. Here's you're change!!
