I am hoping for a better curb appeal, and yes home is brighter, but sun in Summertime is on back of home. The shade does not really help my house in summertime.

I knew of a guy in the late 80's with a golf course/greenskeeper connection. He arranged to get all the plugs when the course was going to aerate and top dress the greens. He got his yard lightly tilled and raked smooth. He then spread the plugs, and in no time flat had a lush Bermuda grass yard. He used a powered reel more and it looked great!

It’s a shame about the trees, I guess not messing with leaves is worth the decrease in property value? But to each their own, as long as you like it. Just planted 4 more oaks on my place this past weekend.

Well I don't have to sell so not worried about property value. I am planting more landscape appropriate trees, though.

Did anyone notice how in the begining of their life they were not trimmed properly? There was no way to make them look aesthetically pleasing.

Do you plan to put Roundup on your existing grass?

It's obvious so many just do not fathom how important this is..

We trim 'em up big time. Use the dirty branch method until one gets to be about an inch in diameter and then off it goes. We like an umbrella canopy above, one that you can walk under and not a bushy tree looking thing with a spidered network of branches coming off it.

Somes questioning the choice of zoysia - I ain't getting that. One inch a week, collect the clippings, give it sun and whaalaa, nice green lawn with more drought tolerance. Actually makes a lot of sense here.

^^^^ That's the way I keep mine.
Trees require maintenance if you want them to look right.

I do love 'em, in Summer especially.

I was wondering about trees that big. Surely there are some sizable roots that may have gone under the house?

I don't see anything wrong with what you've got - trees or sod.

A powered reel mower will give you the cleanest cut if that is what you are after. And I would be prepared to get after it about every 5 days to keep it tight. Zoysia can get thick and isn't easy to cut with any mower when it gets too high.
