I have 3 of the SWFA. 3-15 × 42, moa, good tracking scopes. I am thinking about needing something that will get out a little better 500-1000 yards. Not looking to second mortgage the house though. Looking for a good tracking, reliable, decent glass unit. Thinking less than 1500.

The SS 5-20 is a giant upgrade from the 3-15 and is in your price range new. It can also be found used in the $900-1000 range. Higher quality glass beats extra magnification every time in my book. The 5-20has both.

Are you going to list the 3-15 in the classifieds?

Yes, once I make a decision, 1 will hit the classifieds.

Any Leupold scope with the CDS. Leupold will build you a custom turret which allows you to turn your elevation knob to your ranged distance and then just pull the trigger. You can order different turrets for different loads.
I have one and it's a game changer (resulting in dead game). US product and lifetime warranty.

The custom turret will hold up fairly well out to 400 yard shots.

Beyond 400 yard shots, with a temperature and Density Altitude change, the turret will no longer be correct. Temp and D.A. changes happen through the day, and through the year. And if you change ASL (Above Sea Level) measurements significantly, the DA changes even further. In the end, it is better to get a good ballistic calculator and use Mils or MOA, and adjust as the weather dictates.

And we haven't talked about changing ammo. If one is shooting factory ammo, and he changes lot numbers, there is a good chance the new lot number has a different muzzle velocity. That also will make the turret become incorrect.

OK, little hiccup. I normally us the beefy SWFA rings. They do not make a 34mm? So what would be the equivalent in another brand?

Great price.

I've had good luck with Talley Tacticals.
