This may be a silly question, but any ammo storage cans you recommend to get or stay away from?

Where are you going to store them? If we're talking garage or closet, then the $3.99 specials at Harbor Freight are just fine. Beyond that, I'm interested in seeing other's feedback ITT.

Yes - would be in a closet. I’ve seen some that are flimsy (don’t recall brand) and just thought they probably didn’t seal as well. Will look at Harbor Freight ones.

I was fortunate enough to get some retired ones from Fort Sill. They look brand new. Gaskets are perfect.

See if you can find the real Mccoy.

Mil Spec ones are the best, go to yard sales, flea markets/pulga's, DRMO (Military Yard Sale), clean them out and the seal too, lube the seal with light grease, dont stretch them out (the seal that is) and your in business. Put your ammo or what ever it is your storing in there, in plastic bags inside the can and thats it.

I get the plastic ones at Walmart (no gasket) these days and add about 30 grams of desiccant packets and keep them in climate control. They hold about 600 Rds of 5.56 69 gr loaded to Mag length. Haven’t had a problem yet in the two years I’m been doing that. I do prefer the real deal with gasket but I don’t find them for less than $20 around me.

I have been using the military style 50 cal knock-offs from Academy and Walmart - whichever is on sale because they are the same.

When I first started buying these, I sank three of them underwater overnight to test the seals. They were bone dry inside. For storage, I put a color indicating desiccant pack in each one. The color humidity indicator dots show 10-20% RH after 5-6 years.

Yes, I am likely guilty of overkill but I want my stored ammo to last indefinitely. I am still shooting perfectly functional ammo that is older than me - I'm coming up on 68.

The plastic ammo cans may be great too, but I like the ruggedness and stackability of the heavy steel cans.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.
