Have a buddy who has offered to sell me his 2006 Ranger 700XP at a decent price, below market. It's got 1,700 hours on it and is no spring chicken. Been well-used for typical ranch work, but serviced annually and not "abused." Won't win any beauty contests, but this would be a leave-at-the-lease type UTV so doesn't need to.
It currently is idling a little rough and bogging at full throttle. Based on a little research looks like it needs a new TPS harness and maybe a Tmap sensor cleaning. I can handle that. But, I don't want to get into something that is going to constantly have issues.
Over the years I have heard the 700s were solid units. What does the THF brain trust think: something to act on or signing up for problems?

Well I wound up buying it. First step was massive cleanup, pressure washing 15 years worth of mud off.
Started the engine work last weekend. Cleaned the full air intake and sensors, new spark plugs. Big progress last night: new fuel pump, pressure regulator has idle much smooter. Accelerates smoothly, no more bogging at load. Test drive this am was fun, power is back.
Next up will be wheel bearings, then brakes. Final will be all the cosmetic stuff.
Will post some before and after pics as things progress.

Well Project Ranger is coming right along, thought I'd post a few pics. Here's the work list so far, nearly done. It's now running like a top and got a nice attitude adjustment. -LOTS of power washing to get 15 years of mud off -New fuel pump, strainer, pressure regulator -Spark plugs -Weld cracked roll cage -Plastic weld lots of cracks -Front end rebuild: Ball joints (those were fun), wheel bearings, tie rod ends -Drive belt -Checked/added fluids in all diffs and trans. New air and oil filters. -2" lift kit in front -New front tires -Seat cover -Rear view mirrors -Front LED light bar, rear LED work lights on backlit switches -Welded up a rear jump seat frame -LOTS of rust wire wheeling and re-paint Got about $4,400 in it all told, should make for a good lease ride. Was planning to repaint the fairings in a cool Desert Tan but my daughter lobbied hard to keep the purple. Decided what the hell, make my little girl happy. She loves it!

Nothing like some good old sweat equity. Your way ahead with this venture.

Looks great. I have a 2005 just about like that. What front tires did you put on it?

Great looking ride at a heck of a good deal!
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
