They have two museums. One about Texas Rangers. I am mostly interested in the Old West. Has anyone seen both museums and are either worth a visit? Thanks.

You'll enjoy the Dolph Briscoe Museum of Western Art not far from there

Also the Institute of Texas Cultures is a great visit.

It's been over 12 years since I have been, at that time the Ranger museum was in the Hall of Horns. The museum was fairly new at that time but was good. They said they would be adding to it. When we were kids that was our vacation several times, the zoo, then the Horns at the Lone Star brewery. There were more fishing stuff back then than the last time we went. It is pricey but good. Burgers at the bar were pretty good but not great, might be better now.

The Texas ranger museum in Waco is the best one

If the Buckhorn is still also a bar, I remember they made an excellent Bloody Mary. Good museum too.

Buckhorn museum is one of my favorite places to go. I normally go once every 2-3 years. Absolutely love it. The Texas ranger exhibit is good too and has some of Frank Hamers guns in it.

Def. a must see.

Briscoe museum is ok but IMO not as good as the buckhorn

Dingleberry's dad ran the Buckhorn and grounds when it was at the Lone Star Brewery. It was across town and a frequent destination. Fuzzy Plunkett (real name) was an old hand and he took a liking to us or maybe they just wanted the old fart to have something to do and made him be the baby sitter.

The Ad Toepperwein exhibit was always my favorite. What he could do with a rifle was unnerving. Granny had one of his Indians, but it "disappeared" at about the time of her death.

As TXTrophy indicated - if it's one or the other, get to the Buckhorn. If additional time to kill, get over to the Briscoe.

Bonus info and if you are a meat lover with an appetite, head over to the market which is on the western end of downtown just before I35 and go to La Margarita. Order the Parillada. It's almost a bachanalian tribute to the consumption of flesh - fajitas, chicken sausage, stuffed peppers, beef short ribs (rather relish) and more. Comes with beans, rice, pick and guacamole on the side.

We spend some time in the Buckhorn Saloon in S.A. when we first married. I assume you are talking about the same place? Lots of deer heads and old memorabilia. Cool place.
