Somehow our prickly pear managed to come out looking fine from the freeze but our bigger agave like cactus now look like this. I haven’t touched them since it was 3 degrees here but what say the landscaping experts? Are these toast? Should I try and cut back the dead stuff?

Cut back all of the foliage but leave the stalk should help, if they are going to survive.

Mine took a hit too. I'm going to cut out the dead stuff. It will probably look like hammered dodo for a while. But we'll see what happens.

I have 2 palm trees that look like that.

Leave them alone, don't get too crazy with the clippers.

I’ll also add that the down parts are mushy and starting to stink. It looks like there is some firm great leaves in the upright parts so I’m thinking trimming it back may be best at this point.

Leave them for now, they should come back !

Is there a realistic chance that those droopy parts are actually going to come back? I'm not considering tearing the cactus out yet but seems like that part is a goner.

Wife looked at this one and said trim off the brown and stinky part, leave the core that is green and it will most likely survive, She has the green thumb in the house, I have a brown thumb when it comes to killing most plants.

What I've found out about Cactus, Agave and Yucca's is if there's any green left they will come back.

Trim everything thats laying on the ground, the rest will grow out. These are native and will survive.

Well, came out to this today. Is the center stem still alive? Could it be replanted?
