Started off my night hunting separately from Pig_Popper who had spent the day at my place working with a couple of different rifle setups including the new Bering Optics Hogster Stimulus and a Pulsar Trail 2 XQ50 LRF and then hunting my place as well. I came away with 5 at my starting property and he came away with 2 at my place. We then got together and took down 3 more on a 3rd property. I will say this, Pig_Popper never fails to impress me with the myriad of rifles and optics he brings to the hunt.

Good job from both of y'all. The piglets in the grass were tough. Waiting on the third hog while y'all were together, lots of folks would not have got it that one. Being patient and waiting for the right shots paid off in both cases.
I have got into some really big sounders lately and I have noticed when that happens I tend to start just pulling the trigger and not waiting on and timing my shots like I should. I don't end up killing any more pigs, I just burn more rounds doing it. Need to work on my discipline and slowing down.

I have got into some really big sounders lately and I have noticed when that happens I tend to start just pulling the trigger and not waiting on and timing my shots like I should. I don't end up killing any more pigs, I just burn more rounds doing it. Need to work on my discipline and slowing down. For most of us, there is a definite line between speed and accuracy. The gun training mantra (and I usually hate mantras like this) says "fast is slow - smooth is fast" which sounds like a circular inconsistency. Blasting away for most shooters is just turning money into noise with no real benefit. It FEELS really slow and remedial to actually pick and choose your targets, but it can yield great results. The downside to waiting on targets, 'being patient,' is that they sometimes just totally leave you. This is especially true when you have cover nearby. They often get to cover and never reappear. So you sort of have to balance out trying to get as many as you can with going slow enough to be smooth to hit your targets sufficiently. In my experience, there is no one right answer. You only know what you should have done better AFTER the situation is over as situations vary from sounder to sounder and location to location.

Nice video. Enjoyed the narration, it was informative as well as entertaining.

I agree totally DNS. Mainly I need to just slow my cadence down a bit and make sure my sight picture is right. Easy to get into that "close enough" mental attitude and just pull the trigger.
I do much better when it is just me and one other guy shooting. We shot with some larger inexperienced groups of shooters this last weekend. One of those "business/friend favor" deals. They were just banging away not really hitting anything and that screwed up my sense of timing. I think the next few days I will grab my Kidd .22 and tripod, slip over to my rimfire steel range and do some work on trigger control/shot placement/target transitions.
I am good on ammo for now but with the current reloading component situation I need to get my shot/kill ratio down to a much better number. Stretch those components out to kill as many hogs as possible. My usage rate from this last week is not sustainable, LOL.

Funny thing about this hunt - Brian and I thought these 3 boars were no bigger than 60 - 80 lbs .
This was the rare occasion when the ended up being much larger than we initially thought !
Thanks for the invite - look forward to another run soon
