Yesterday my son and I were coming home from shooting skeet. A coyote crossed the road about 50 yards in front of us going about half speed. I say look there's a coyote. About that time a yellow lab mix dog comes along behind the coyote about the same speed. It was an average size mature coyote and the dog would go a little over 100 lbs. I told my son "that dog will never catch that coyote, he looks tired out". Well they go across an open pasture and the coyote goes up the back side of a lake damn and stops at the top. I told my son this should get interesting. I thought they were going to get into it. Instead they started kind of playing like they were pack buddies. And yes I know the difference between a dog and a coyote so no species arguments here please. Well the dog moves on a bit and the coyote just stands there for a while. Then they both leisurely moved on together. I'm a seasoned human and have never seen coyotes and dogs run together like this. Usually a pack of coyotes will make a meal out of a dog rather than become friends. Anybody else seen this? I thought it was pretty strange.

Yeah I'm no expert but that's how Coydogs get made. Those I have seen.
The pair I saw looked like lighter (fawn) colored German Shepherds.
or bigger Coyotes

Where I could see a chance mating I didn't know they would run together.

Why can't we ALL get along?

They absolutely will run together. I remember hunting coyotes for money on west Texas ranches and the rancher would pay more for a dog that was running with a pack than they would for a coyote.

They are species cousins. Plus there are no rigid behavior rules among animals. Just like our pet dogs have varying personalities. Two identical dogs often behave differently.

There’s some wolf/coyote in all our dogs.

To be determined

True, found this guy on a dirt road. Fifi gone feral.
