They are so plentiful in Calcasieu Lake that a lot of the trout anglers who don't keep them to eat slice the gills or bonk their heads before discarding them for the crabs. They reckon there are only so many vittles down there to feed the trout and the gafftops are strong competitors. They also get sick of catching the "snot sharks." I prefer to bring them home since our family likes them better than channel catfish and about as well as blues. Not as good as flatheads through, but a cooler full of 3-7 lb gafftops is a good day.
