Was thinking of heading to Public land (lake granger) with my 2 boys, 7 & 9 years old. They don’t have hunting licenses, and would be accompanying me, not hunting. I’ll be looking for a rabbit, squirrel, or quail.

Any problems as long as they’re wearing orange?

If no problems so far, I know they would want like to bring along their ‘guns’, a daisy buck and a red ryder. Any problems with that? They wouldn’t be hunting, but I don’t know how a game warden would view that. I’ve read through PHL handbook and hunting regs. But can’t find definitive answer.

Thanks.

One way and sometimes easiest for me is to find the Game Warden for that district. Call them and leave a message, they usually will call you back the next day, TPWD can tell you or the info is in PHL hand book. Hope this helps and good hunting.

Yeah, that’s probably the best way to get an answer. I’ll call in the morning. Thanks

I kind of doubt they will let you bring a BB gun along. Even though its very low power its still an air rifle and if they let you bring an air power rifle the guys with these new super-high powered air rifles are going to "demand" that they should be allowed to bring theirs.

Talked to GW, kids can come along and bring BB guns, but BB guns must be unloaded. That’s good, I’m just teaching them safety & etiquette.

Thanks everyone.

Great Game Warden. Good on them allowing kids to get partly in the game.
Great idea Pops - keep it going. up

Glad you got that straightened out, I do not know if you know about the Texas Youth Hunting Program https://www.tyhp.org but it is available for hunts for kids 9 through 16 years of age.
