I need some help finding a place to camp with about 40 kids and their Dads with the Troops of St. George on the April 30-May 2. We are planning on taking the boys on a tour of the Missions in San Antonio, so we would like to be within one hour of there and would be spending most Saturday there. I am aware of a couple of parks, but they all have these inane mask restrictions. I don’t want our boys wearing masks in the great outdoors... Any ideas or leads would be great. Thanks for any help!

You might call this place. They have limited cabins but may allow to tent camp on the ranch. It is a little over an hour to SA, but would be 15 minutes to the Presidio La Bahia. Lot of history there.

There is also a ranch that has 2 or 3 cabins the rent daily or weekly on a ranch about 10 minutes from Bum's ranch.

Are the state parks the ones with the mask restrictions?

My buddy had two eagle scouts. I'll ask him where they used to go.

Not sure what accomodations you are wanting or needing. Could call either Calaveras or Braunig Lake parks. Chocke Canyon State Park is right at or a hair over your hour time line in three rivers south of San Antonio. Choke used to be a really cool place to stay, but they have really cracked down on what you can do. No more feeding the wildlife, i feel like that was a huge change.

Camp Bullis use to allow Scouts to camp, I have no idea if that is still allowed. It looks like they still have some campgrounds but did not find more specifics. Red Chevy's suggestions are good as well. Had some good camping trips at Braunig Lake.

Thanks for the good info. All the places run by the state including Braunig Lake show mask requirements on their webpages. (I don’t know if it’s actually enforced, but I don’t want the kids masked up and at the same time I don’t want to be teaching them to disregard rules — even stupid ones.). I like stxranchman’s ideas, but they are a bit farther than I had wanted. Will consider them if I can’t find anything else...

Braunig and Calaveras are not state run. I do not believe you will find a place that doesn't say you are suppose to wear a mask.

According to another post in the OP Masks are no longer "required" in texas. May give the parks another look.
