Yep, born and raised on them, and I love them!! When the wife says "Ewww, grits are disgusting", then there's more for me, and she gets to make her own breakfast. banana
Salt, pepper, w/ butter and soft runny eggs. Some of that delicious apple cinnamon bread!

Looks fantastic. Eggs with grits for breakfast or shrimp with grits for dinner. They are great with everything.

World class grits are a treasure, tender and soft. If you want to start a fight, mention “Instant” grits to a Southerner!!!

Dad used to always bring back yellow grits when he went down to Lafayette. I couldn’t tell you if it’s tied to Cajun cooking or not but he swore by those over the white grits. I never met a . . . . grit? I didn’t like!

I bet that would make an awesome shrimp and grits plate. The low country Charleston-style I'm used to are white grits, and more of just sautéed seafood. 'Nawlins style cajun shrimp/grits are more yellow, with lots of cheddar cheese and blended spices. No such thing as a bad one, just different!!

I also have to admit I have never been much of a grit eater. Growing up, the only time I ever remember eating grits would be if my dad and I stopped for breakfast somewhere that served them. He would doctor them up with some butter and sugar and I would eat them up. I don't know if that's normal or sacrilegious to you lifelong grit eaters, but he taught me that if you put enough butter and sugar on something, you can make anything taste good.

Now my girlfriend's aunt makes some kind of jalapeno cheddar grit dish for the holidays every year that is an old family recipe, and I can't get enough of that stuff.

I guess now that I am older I need to figure out the more traditional way to eat grits and give them another try since my tastes aren't as limited.

Yeah I’m out on the sugar in grits. That’s more of a cream of wheat thing to me.

Butter, plenty of salt and some pepper. That’s all grits need man. Give that a whirl and report back

I don't remember how my dad ate them (probably butter, salt, and pepper that seems to be the common thing on here), but I know I wouldn't touch mine as a kid. He finally got me to eat them by putting butter and sugar on them. I don't know why or what made him try to give them to me that way, but it worked and it got them down me. Sometime kids are just weird, what can I say.

Of course, I have grown to eat a lot of things I wouldn't as a kid, so I may like them just fine now. I will definitely give them another try and see how I like them. Anything specific to look for at the store or is a grit a grit?

I never was much on oatmeal (slimy) but loved malt-o-meal, cream of wheat and grits. just a little butter, salt and lots of black pepper for me. Toss in cheese and chopped green onion even better. add shrimp and yet again better.
