I just want to be clear, about my question, being the new guy don't want to get people upset. im not asking for spot, locations, or anything like that. just trying to find out if any parts of the Colorado river south of Columbus (I10) are legal to hunt from a boat. I am getting conflicting information from LCRA, TPWD game wardens, and other post on social media and forums ive been seeing (which is being monitored by TPWD) some people are hunting it. im just seeing if this is another possible means of hunting. thank you for your patience with me. as my name reads, im new.

I would just talk to the game wardens who handle the county youll be hunting. They will be the ones enforcing it so if they say ita OK you should be good to go. Try to get it in writing if you can.

River hunting in texas is legal.
You're shot leaving that riverbed is not.

Basically if the adjoining land owner doesn't like you there it can get goofy. Good luck

You have to tie up to something when you hunt. You can't float and shoot.

This is incorrect. Need to read the regs for 'legal means'...

I know you say you aren't looking for spots, but you posted about a 'spot' asking for information. Don't take anyone's word for it other than law enforcement. Talk to Game Warden and don't ask on a public forum/social media. Plenty of people give incorrect answers for various reasons.

I suggest emailing TPWD law enforcement asking your question for the specific section of river your wanting to hunt. Then if you get a response that says you can, print out your email response to take with you when your hunting. Not just to show a GW, but any landowner, people fishing at your launch, do gooders etc. that question you being able to hunt there. Because you will eventually encounter someone trying to tell you you can't.

I had a game warden give me a tip about a certain river a few year back.....don't piss off the deer hunters, if they complain he would have to shut me down as we all know where some of the shot will end up.

Ive been down this road with a warden outside of corpus. My son and i wanted to hunt a river in the area and found a great spot. We called the warden and asked the legalities. He first advised that it wasnt legal. I felt it was and pleaded my case. He finally conceded that it was in fact legal, but he would cite us for trespassing by projectile if we tried to hunt there. Keep in mind, this place was 50yds wide and several hundred yards long. It would have been easy enough to set up shots to keep the charge inside the waterway. He wouldnt relent and said it would be in our "best interest" not to hunt. Just another big man with a badge imposing his will is what it boiled down to.

Id tell him to prove it. He won't be able to find any shot, so if the pellets stay in the river, you're good. I'd video your hunt though so you have proof for the judge.

problem is it would cost more to fight than it would to just pay the ticket. it's been my experience that the newer younger game wardens (under 45-50) dont know as much as they think they do. Other than the catch phrase co-mingle since thats an easy go to one.

Attention rickym, this is not a troll post, just a good hearted fun type of post

Its a bummer that they dont embrace getting MORE people outdoors. I guess the more people they run off, the easier the job gets.
