Not as many birds raised this year due to covid. We normally go through about 3500 pheasant, and a few hundred chukar. We could only find 800 pheasant, and even less chukar.
One of the Weimar clubs is having a hunt test in 2 weeks. For $55 you could run him in a 30 min brace. It's a double for jrs, so you could run him twice in the same day.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

The best and cheapest way to get your into pen raised birds in NSTRA. You are invited, no encouraged to go into the field after the trial and shoot the leftover birds.
