Went to the lease in Eastern Lasalle County. As expected the plumbing from the cistern and manifold are all verschizzen - crapped out. Won't know about any of the living quarters until that is repaired and then we'll see.
Also as expected, the brush took a major hit. The white brush simply lost its leaves, the black brush was all torched up. There is one thorny brush species (don't know the name) which looks like it is lost and I will say thank goodness. Most of the prickly pear looks good (a shame) and the wyocan (sp?) looks like it was never touched. What caught me off guard was on the ground. The grass and forbs are just as green as ever. The square head farmers around here always have said a good freeze is good for the soil - loosens it. From what I saw, they may well be right. We thought the protein & cottonseed would be decimated with nothing else to eat. It was hit, but not as hard I would have thought. That there freeze along with the snow melt may end up being a good thing. One little rain and some sun quickly and it is my belief we will be in pretty darn good shape. Hope I am right.

I believe it was a bonus for the quail. The green forbes are quail salad.

Guayacan is supposed to be impervious to freezing. That is one good source the deer should always have.
I’ve seen a few bad freezes that burned the brush pretty good. One in particular took a lot of black brush and Guajillo on a ridge. Mesquite seems to bounce back quickly
All the Forbes and weeds popping up will get them thru this. Lots of drizzle here the past few days,l and greening up....deer are hitting feed but not like I would have thought
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

We got enough snow, that the ground cover was well insulated and the snow was able to soak in. Should be a good spring
