What’s a good starter compound bow for a kid that could possibly be used for deer ? My oldest son is about to be 14 and is kinda small for his age . Weighs right around 100 lbs

how tall is he? Thats more important than his weight.

If a kid can hold 3lbs at arms length the Infinite Edge Pro can be setup to fit them. I have setup hundreds of them for Kids of all ages from 5 to 70. I have also sold the to elk hunters and to PHs in Africa and hunters going to Africa to take as their backup bow.

Is the Edge Pro the fastest bow or the "best" bow no but is it a highly adjustable bow that works great? Yes. On it's speed it is faster than the high end bows made before 1999.

One year I sold 2 Edge bows for ladies that wanted to bow hunt that year. After giving them the basics of archery shooting and setting the bow to truly fit them they killed 5 deer between them that season and have continued to stack them up the last I heard.

As your son grows you can extend the draw lngth and change the draw weight easily without a press just a couple allen wrenches are all that is needed.

Mission by Mathews is what my son shoots and he is just a little older than yours-- He hasn't killed any deer with it yet but has put a hurtin on the pigs

Mission is another good one I could have mentioned, Solid bow as well.

There are some Bear bows that would work as well, but know some of theirs and PSE will list weights as low as the Mission and Diamond but do not reach that until at the shortset draw lengths and many kids have trouble with them for that reason. But the Bear Cruizer II would be another to look at, priced close the Diamonds.

They are the model 1100 of bows....nicely appointed for the dollar, not overt fancy but they work good

My sons started at 5-years old with a Bear Apprentice II. Turned down to 17 pounds and around 20 inches back then. As they grew I turned up the DW and adjusted the DL. You can do all this without a press in a minute or two. The oldest one has killed over a dozen animals with this bow over the years, most once he drew 35# and since. He is 15-years old now and used it this season set at 50# and 27-inches to take a very nice buck and other animals. At $279 new this bow has served 10-years with no issues.

I blew the cables and strings on my 20-year old bow and I needed one right now. I could not get what I wanted immediately so I looked for a used bow for a low price just to get by a few weeks. I found a Bear Young Guns for $125 ready to shoot. This bow is the predecessor to the Apprentice II, so I was already familiar with it. I maxed out the DL and DW and ended up with 27.5 and 48#. It was a tiny bit short for me but I used it for archery season that year and was successful with it. I still have this bow and will soon sell it.

My oldest has his own money now so he gave his Apprentice II to a friend that happens to be small for his age. My son purchased a Mission Switch and accessorized it like he wanted. His idea was that he can grow with this bow too. The main difference from the bear is that it is a little faster (305 rating compared to 265 rating). This is a solid bow and he was successful with it this year. Mission had the Radik and the Hammr that are 28-inch overall that would suit a smaller person. These bows come in around $399 sticker in most stores. You can't go wrong with them.

Bear Apprentice II - Here's 4 - years of service

I second the diamond edge. It is now my backup how. It is the bow I started my daughter on at about that age. It is light, adjustable and fairly easy to shoot. I've shot lite arrows and heavy 700 grain arrows out of it. Over time I upgraded the sight, stabilizer and rest but the original shoots fine. The only change I would make is to remove that peep sight with the stupid rubber tube and have a pro tie in a peep of the correct size for the sight and at the correct height.

Another thing to remember is a bow like the infinity edge is 10x the bow even the top of the line stuff was 15 years ago.
