We've had some almosts and not quites (mostly MY mistakes)over the last couple years but this morning a couple jakes came in eagerly enough that I didn't have time to mess it up. Nothing gobbling at all and we just got done having the conversation that it may not happen today when Nate spots a Turkey that just stepped into the field and seconds later his limb mate came busting out. They strutted the whole way in rushing to pass the other one up. Other than no gobbling the did everything a Tom is supposed to do. It was quite comical as they tried to out do each other. I had placed the decoy at 30 yards and when I knew they were under 40 I said shoot which ever one you want and he folded him!! What a rush. Moments before they appeared he gave me a big hug and said thanks dad for getting me out of the house. What a treat this was to a young man who has been jailed at home with all this crap in our world. For a while we only thought of turkeys and that was much needed. The after hunt fishing was pretty good to.
