Big flood in the house, but was home and got on it quick with no damage other than some laminate flooring.
I've had the same 4 way manifold brass splitter on my hose bib for years. No leaks from this. Yesterday, I had the supply to it on, but all four ports closed. There were two hoses attached. I had no idea on the source of all the water in the house. I had used this hose a few hours earlier so went to it, and saw water coming from one of the weep opening between the bricks right on foundation. I shut the supply to it off, water stops running from brick. I take the manifold splitter off, no leak. I checked my meter, zero movement on thw spinner so no leak anywhere.
So, when the 4 way splitter is attached, and the supply to it is on but valves closed, water leaks from somewhere, and eventually into the house under a wall. Remove the splitter, on or off, no water leaks form wall. Crazy, got to be an obvious answer. Could be a very small leak, from the freeze that when under pressure is greater?

Sounds like a simple crack in a line. Not a problem with lower pressure and flow in system, but the shut-off head pressure is enough higher to cause it to expand, and leak faster. Might be so fine it is difficult to see.

The exact same thing happened to me. I guess freeze proof is just a suggestion. Mine didn't have a hose or anything attached so it should have drained. Plenty of negative draft angle when it was installed.

Plenty of negative draft angle when it was installed. Yes, same here. What had me stumped is that there is no detectable leak when it is off, or this manifold removed. I've added it to my claim.

There be a lot of these show up this summer. Someone will attach a hose with a sprayer attached. Charge the hose. Release the handle then flood the adjacent room . Glad you found it now.
If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

If you had those alternate outlets shut, then water was more than likely trapped in the valve. Copper splits at around 1600 psi. If the hose was not left on, and the valve is installed at an angle....then there should not be any water in the tube. Thus make them "frost proof". Some valves are better than others.

Even will angle, with the extreme low temps and the lenghth of time we had them, the faucet seat could have seeped. Over a few days, tube could filled with water, then ice and split.

Freeze break on your frost proof, You not suppose to leave a hose or splitter hooked up in winter time
As of now plenty of Frost Proof at the supply houses as of now, I think that might change in the next few weeks

In 2011 in the DFW area we had a pretty bad freeze, when it came to spring time many supply houses were sold out of frost proof for about a month, I suspect to see the same scenario this year only much worse and much longer will the supply be limited
