That's tough!! Yes, even we aren't immune to it here in Idaho. I shut off the yard sprinkler system, drain the header back into the house, and blow out all the zones with my air compressor. Evidently the shut off valve has a slow leak-thru it, and last weeks cold busted off my Schedule 40 line to the control box. Won't need that until May!!!

Now that it has thawed, a lot more of these issues will be popping up. Here we have city crews working on busted mains. Our streets run red, not with blood, but the red mud the breaks wash out of the ground.

It'll do that to steel too. It's not uncommon here to see cast iron pump cases cracked open or even engine blocks cracked, if there was no antifreeze in the system.

It does strange things to oil too, if it gets cold enough. We just came out of a spell of -30 to -40 weather.
My truck was plugged in so it started, but it wouldn't move. The oil in the trans. was so cold it wouldn't engage the clutches. That's on an auto transmission.

After running for an hour it went into gear but when I went for a drive the wheals were frozen so the flat spot at the bottom stayed flat and it was like driving on square wheels.

Year ago I was running a water truck. One day when it was -40 I hit a two inch rubber hose with a hammer to break up ice inside, the dang hose broke in half.

Cold is a nasty thing if you are not prepared. I lost a brother to hypothermia on the warmest day of the winter, back in 1972.

I’ve been fixing bust commercial fire sprinkler systems for 12+ hours a day since Friday morning. Everything from CPVC TO 6 inch grooved couplings and 4 inch threaded fittings. It’s getting old quick.

I had two burst ,is that a pelican ? They need a drain petcock at the bottom.
