I thought I saw a post on this but couldn't find it.

Was thinking it would be a good idea to put one in my insulated shop. It would be nice to keep water from freezing out there for animals. Would be nice to keep warm during normal winter conditions.

Could also cook on it if needed or in an emergency could keep animals warm or even us if we ever lost power.

Thoughts?

Find an old school welder to build you out a tire burning one. Technically it's multi fuel.

I've built two for two different shops.

The latest was a 30" diameter anhydrous tank. I laid it on its side, cut it 40" long and built a front door. Two legs up front, one in the back.

2" x 5" x 1/4" tubing from front to back at 10 and 2 o'clock. Then those are plumbed into one plentum and a 6" squirrel cage fan blows air through the stove. That's the key to making the stove 10X more useful.

Saw this. Thought it would be good with a blower retrofitted on it. It’s actually a rocket stove but I’ve made one out of an old propane tank and it is very efficient and burns very hot.

I'm trying to picture that. It sounds pretty elaborate.

If somebody wanted to go a simple route for a shop those blower units that go in the flu pipe seem to work pretty well. Something kind of like this:

We had one In the shop in Michigan. We worked on snow mobiles in short sleeves. They are great.

Wood burning stoves are nice, but I like my Hvac system, works summer and winter. It is unusual to lose power like this time, so I just fired up my fish cooker, problem soled.

Had one when I was growing up. . Great for heating water. Would have a little difficult to cook.

I have two Quadra Fire stoves in my house. one is upstairs the other is downstairs. They work great. I don't use them a lot, but sure came in handy this past week when the power went out. One for your shop would be great. Better if you don't have to but wood.

The old pot belly train stoves put out lots of heat and can burn coal or wood.

Pot belly stoves work great but are you prepared to cut a hole in your roof for the flue?

I've got two pics of it, but they will not load.

It isn't all that elaborate.

Wood stoves, without blower fan only heat the area adjacent to them. The fan sends cold air through the tubes, convection heats the air, and it comes out hot.

My last shop was a 24' x 30' x 10' walls, 4:12 roof, all insulated. The little stove for that one is 18" diameter and only 30" long. The coldest day I remember, it was 18° outside. After an hour I had the shop at 62°. Thermometer 30' away.

This one at our place in MT does pretty well. Much better than our fireplace here. I’m sure it would do much better with a blower/fan.

I don’t have much experience with wood burning stoves. Sounds like a great idea. As a kid I spent a winter one year with friends in La Pine Oregon. All the had was a wood burning stove. I was impressed with the heat output.

For a shop, it seems like a simple and economic addition.

We have a wood stove and fireplace. The fireplace hasn’t been used for 20 years, very inefficient. The wood stove is on the far end of the house. It works great, but during the last week I had to ration the wood I had to last all week. Burned the last fire yesterday.

I saw a guy cut a tree down in his front yard to burn.

Luckily have a ton of mesquite piles for wood.

I wouldn't be that opposed to venting the chimney through my shop roof.

You can weld together 2 truck rims, 1 car rim and some scrap metal to make a great pot bellied stove, actually called mine the fat belly stove. I used 2, 21" rims over a base of a car 14" rim.

Had the big freeze gone on any longer, I’ve got plenty in the backyard to pick from.

Might be easier to penetrate side wall to outside then up .
I have also seen where people run some of the vent stack along horizontal with some rise to it to gain more heat front the vent stack.
