As someone who loves to fish on the coast as much as hunt, I am hoping for the best..
I have seen some videos already of fish kills..
probably won't know the extent for a few days after it starts warming up..

Fingers crossed.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

I have seen plenty of photos that look bad, with dead fish everywhere. But only time will tell.

I grew up on the coast but now live in Austin, keep our boat in Seadrift

not looking good
be nice if everyone could commit to a catch and release for a year..

Devastating to see all the trout lost...

Didn't get to go as much as I wanted last year at all.

Might need to book a trip somewhere

Hopefully people don’t focus on filling freezers this year!

Mansfield got hit hard. Lotsa dead snook and trout.
Pics I’m seeing from upper coast...Rockport...Copano etc show tons of dead hardheads bait fish and a few smaller trout. Shrimp boat channel from AP to PA loaded with dead fish...again most all trash or baitfish.
Couple friends ran around in airboat yesterday and saw big trout and reds dead in 4-5ft of water laying on bottom. With super cold water temps it’ll take a while before they bloat and float. You can only see those fish now if you get right on top of em....I’ve seen big game fish that died from red tide that never floated.
Lotsa doom n gloom scenarios popping up but until TPWD gets out and make their own assessments...who really knows. You won’t see many bad pics on social media cause locals know they cutting their own throats with that kinda PR....they will wait on TPWD to do that to em.
I can tell you this...many guides and others in fishing related businesses are sweating bullets on what TPWD gonna hit em with in name of conservation weather it’s a fact or overreaction.
They are just getting past the...hurricane Harvey ruined fishing in the area false fear and now this.

No doubt we got some fish kill, but I don't believe it's gonna be that bad here at least. I've seen worse freezes here with the bays frozen and a lot more fish kill, and we still caught plenty of fish afterwards. The damage that was done was recovered from pretty quickly, and that's when the limits were a lot higher and there was no 25" rule on sow trout.

The tides appeared to be fairly normal as the cold spell started, so there should have been enough water for fish to get out of the lakes and backwater areas to find some deeper water. I would bet that an awful lot of the bait died tho, and I am sure you all will have a tough time getting shrimp and finger mullet for a while!! Stock up on GULP, before that's all bought out too.

Haha. First it’s anything 6.5mm related and primers now it’s going to be gulp. I’m screwed if I run out of gulp. I’m going to need some lessons skinner. Probably save me money in the long run!
