I am so lucky, been up day and night saving mine with insulation, propane heat, and pump running.......been without power here for extended periods of time and everything is still operational. If I can get my pool through the night, we may get a break tomorrow.

Mine pump has been running for about 4 days, no loss of electricity so far and the water is circulating fine, no ice. Heck of an electric bill coming.

Best of luck to you guys with frozen water. Please keep us posted.

We fortunately never lost power so I covered the pool equipment and plumbing with moving blankets and kept things warm under the tent with a halogen work light as it ran 24/7 this week. Developed a bunch of small plumbing leaks so will be replumbing the entire above ground setup this spring.

Didn't try to walk on mine, but it was 1 1/2" thick where I broke it to get water to flush my toilets... blush

Story of my life since Monday. I've got tarps, pipe insulation, moving blankets and furniture cushions on our equipment. Also a space heater for when the power is on. I've drained everything once during the biggest outage we had but refilled it once we had power on the advice of the pool company. Got it insulated well enough I had to shut the heater off because it was getting so warm the freeze protection was shutting off. I'm with you, if we can get through tonight I think we will be good.

I've seen one leak that I think is a gasket on our filter return pipe but that is it so far. Our pool almost completely froze over even with the pumps running.

I drained all I could. Will wait until next week when it's warm and start it back up to see.

Similar situation here.....lost power for 24 hours Sunday early morning til Monday early morning. Spent Monday shutting off the breaker, draining my tank, opening the skimmer basket (which both were partly frozen) and taking out the valve covers for both pumps and unfreezing the inline chlorinator among other things. Put a sleeping bag over the equipment as best I could too. Pool has only gotten a light slushy glaze over the top since that I go out and break up several times a day.

I think I'll be okay, but not sure until I fire it all up again. No busted pipes so far. Will probably wait until at least Tuesday so enough time to let things thaw out that I can't see. Talked to my pool company and they thought that was the best route.

The best part of that one I'm guessing is that it isn't yours!

Time to go back out with the scraper and chisel up my pool. A little Garrison Brothers' Honeydew waiting for me when I come back to warm up

Give you an idea of how thick it’s getting even with chiseling it multiple times a day. Can’t wait for the warm up tomorrow afternoon!

Been very fortunate so far. Followed pool companies recommendation and ran pool heater set at 40 degrees and everything is working and no leaks so far.
Electric and NG bill will be sky high for sure but I’ll take that instead of damages and repairs.

I'll get both, the skyhigh bills and the repairs. Mine was running 24/7 until Monday afternoon. Oh well, it is what it is

It won’t be that bad from the pool pump. We run our pump 24/7 year round, our house is all electric, and my electric bill is usually around $200.

When I heat my pool during Winter I'll let it go for usually about 3 weeks (usually 90F). My gas bill will usually be about $600. Depends on weather, of course, 30k gallons. I don't pay attention to electric but I have two pumps. One is a variable speed, the other is a single.

That will sux. We were lucky and never lost power. I had my generator ready to go but never needed to use it. Of course, I would not have been able to run the pool pump so that was a weak link in my plans.
Good luck on the repairs, hopefully you get some help from insurance although water issue typically are not covered in most policies.

One inch will hold you, 3 inches is safe. You can drive a truck on 12.

Yeah, it will not be the first time. When I see cold weather coming, I override timer and turn on manually until cold weather is over. The flow is strong enough to keep the water moving. I didn't cover equipment until a couple of days ago when everyone started losing power. I have been lucky so far. I do see a water main leak up the street so I may need that pool water soon LOL.

Found our only busted pipe today. Somehow water got trapped in our backwash pipe and it burst. 18$ later and we are back in business minus some paint. [Linked Image]

Turned mine on today and had a broken pipe at one of the elbows in the section with my ozone filter. thankfully I was able to repair it without having to take the entire section apart. Pool plumbers do some really nice work, but they don’t leave a whole lot of open spaces to give you room to fix broken pipes.

Thanks,
Rich

Ain’t that the truth. It’s hard enough getting to the filter basket lids because of how close they put them.
