Do you think people will lose grass after this cold spell? Mine was green as could be this time last week. It was covered in ice for about 3 days. It finally melted. It looks like 3 year old hay now.

Most likely if it’s covered in snow it will die or get a disease. Back in 2010 when we had a good snow half of mine died, the other half battled disease

No snow, but solid ice for over 48 hrs.

The snow provides some insulation from the actual atmospheric temperature. Freezing rain and then continued freezing temps is worse. I expect ours to bounce back in the spring since we had a good 5 inches of snow.

I was wondering the same..... 5 inches of snow the other day, another 4 today..... this can't be good.

The snow probably helped insulate it before the really cold stuff hit.
The big guy designed it that way.

But it will set it back a little this year.

Depends on the cultivar but it should bounce back. Once you get green up I would hammer down some azoxystrobin (Scotts DiseasEX) make sure to water it in. 2 weeks later I would apply propiconazole (hose end application) Bio-Advanced sold at Lowes. It will probably stunt the St Aug growth a bit but that's ok. Apply proper NPK and fungicide apps going forward and you should be good.

I would imagine a large state wide kill would change that.

Off topic question. I just regraded my entire backyard with the exception of an area probably 50x40 that is well established in floratam. I'm hoping to put my house in the market in the next few months. What route would yall take on the dirt that I regraded? Sod the whole thing? Plug? Let it grow up in native grass? The backyard is roughly 125x125.

Back in 1989 we had a big die off of St. Augustin and that was a quick cold snap. I was trying to remember if it was grass under live oaks or in full sun. One or the other made it but we had no snow covrr.
