I am looking at a place that has some miniature Jersey's and Zebus and will throw them in with the house "if the offer is strong enough." I am curious what the average prices are on these guys so that I can make an educated decision if I want to get them with the property or just go out and get them on my own after the fact. I like the idea of miniatures vs the bigguns as I would have way too much milk for the family. What say you THF?

I want them for milk production for the family. A mini produces about 1/3 of the milk of a full sized.

I'd give them a bonus to take them with them when they move.
Lots of people think having a milk cow would be great...
Until they have to get up at 4 am to feed and milk them every day. Every single day...

In the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years.

I love raw milk! The best thing about it for me is it doesn't tear my stomach up like the store bought stuff. I used to be part of a dairy co-op where we would place our orders a week before, then the rancher would deliver everyone's items to a " dairy shack" at a members house and everyone would get what they ordered and leave the money owed in the envelope. Worked pretty flawlessly for a few years then people started stealing from the rancher and other members. Damn thieves.

Every single day... ^^^^ This and add to that milking in the afternoon hours as well 365 days a year, can't take a vacation unless someone else can milk your cows and you'll have more milk than you can ever imagine. There's a reason they want to leave them behind. Deduct from the purchase price if they leave the animals behind.

Raw milk is the best.
Milking cows every day is not the best.

Where is there a market for miniature cattle?
Do you eat them? They are the diet version of real cattle.

My grandparents always had a milk cow. When we would visit , the first thing my dad would do , was crumble cornbread in a big glass of milk. I remember telling my grandparents I did not like " cow's milk" They ask me where my milk came from ?" I replied " the milk man" they could not understand why I would not eat their butter or drink their milk.

Until they have to get up at 4 am to feed and milk them every day. Every single day... I agree. And unless they come with a milking machine and skimmer I would run. There isn’t any market except shows and lawn ornaments The seller has found out he can’t get anything near what he paid for them so is trying to get you to pay him more.

Get rid of them and get some beef cattle. There like longhorns "Yard Art". Worthless. Agreed. For over 15 + years, we raised Longhorns, , and sold um to folks all over Texas. I was running my Oilfield Fab business at the time when we started and didn't have time to babysit cattle. Most that have them, have um for front pasture cattle. Nope they don't throw the meat in pounds but do cook out good. Had one butchered every year. Yearling threw about 4 to 500 pounds of meat. One thing I can tell you after having a slew of them dropped over the years, ain't had one pinkeye problem , no hoof problems and after a 100 or 2 ain't never had to pull a calf in the calving season or had a problem with birthing. Never had to worry about predators at calving time, with switchblades on the momma's heads. Sold my yearling calves for a good price cause of the color and horn. These aren't production beef cattle for sure. This is one of my early Bulls, Gunslinger and all our guys were heavy, strong boned cattle. Oh sold this Guy around 2009 for $8500 bucks up to a Guy in Kansus. My Grandad long gone ran big herds of Herefords in Oklahoma and can recall as a Kid, all the headaches He had with those. I guess to each there own.PS, If you keep um fat and fed/happy , they don't tear up fences. .
