The senate has been out of session all week.

Please tell us what sort crime it is to do what you want, where you want, if you are not at work?

I fired Fox News on election night.

Have not been back. Not even for 30 seconds.

Cruz winning reelection only to not be here now when there is nothing he can do is way tons better than Robert Francis elected as our senator and being here to "help" us.

Before you lay blame, read this

Going into effect Sunday, Feb. 14, Emergency Order 202-21-1 shows the Energy Dept. was aware of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s statewide disaster declaration and that ERCOT was readying gas utilities in preparation for a demand surge.

https://www.scribd.com/document/495189508/DOE-202-c-Emergency-Order-ERCOT-02-14-2021

The order shows Acting Energy Secretary David Huizenga did not waive environmental restrictions to allow for maximum energy output, instead ordering ERCOT to utilize all resources in order to stay within acceptable emissions standards – including purchasing energy from outside the state.

“ERCOT anticipates that this Order may result in excess emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury, and carbon monoxide emissions, as well as wastewater release limits,” the order states. “To minimize adverse environmental impacts, this Order limits operation of dispatched units to the times and within the parameters determined by ERCOT for reliability purposes.”

Moreover, the order instructed an “incremental amount of restricted capacity” to be sold to ERCOT at “a price no lower than $1,500/MWh,” an increase of over 6,000 percent over February 2020 prices of $18.20.

On Wednesday, the Dallas Business Journal reported, “Electricity on the Texas grid has averaged about $1,137.33 per megawatt hour so far in February, up from $18.20 per megawatt hour in February 2020, according to data from the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas. That’s a jump of more than 6,000 percent.”

The EO shows the Biden administration basically ordered ERCOT to throttle its energy output by forcing it to comply with environmental green energy standards, while knowing full well Texans could freeze to death in their homes with zero electricity as temperatures plunged into the single digits.

Here's the thing.

There were multiple failures on all levels. Whether that be from an operational, legislative, or equipment standpoint I am sure it will be looked into and scrutinized.

The 2003 North East blackout caused the formation of NERC which I believe to be a good thing. It provides all of the North American electric companies at the transmission level to comply with certain guidelines. This includes Generators and Transmission lines as well as any interconnections into and out of any separate entity.

I do know that we as Texas had failures on multiple levels we were bringing in power from the East and West interconnections and they themselves had to drop our power transfer to deal with their own issues. This caused us to have a lot of capacity lossed. Add onto that the fact that we don't really have any winterization or at least not adequate for subzero temperatures and you have yourself a mix for a hard time.

People that didn't lose power were the lucky ones. The winter storm itself would cause high winds and icing on lines and trees close to lines that would take power out indiscriminately. Past that the loss of generation due to the extreme cold (instrumentation freezing, wind turbines going offline due to extreme temps, support services for generation going offline for weather-related issues causing their main generator to trip, running machines at their emergency levels, etc.) and the increased need for heaters and pumps with only so much load you can supply there is a point where it has to give. ERCOT could shed load or not do anything and allow the whole state to go dark.

Was it terrible? Yes.
Did people in need of power get it? Not in all cases.
Does this need to be looked into and does there need to be some forethought into how to prevent an issue like this in the future? Yes.
Do Texans need to prepare as individuals for the possibility that this isn't just a freak accident that happens every 70+ years? Yes.
Did I see Texans doing what Texans do? Which is helping each other out. Yes.

Unfortunately, we don't have the privilege of being backed "electrically" by other states.
But I know that the blame doesn't fall on just one entity and I also know that there is a lot of people hurting after this.
Is this incident any single senator's fault? No.
Is it Greg Abbott's fault? No.
Is there legislation and organizations in place that have been prohibitive with no science backing their claims? Yes.

And I don't know what ERCOT could have done differently. There hasn't been enough investigation into it.

If it comes out that they have been blazing their inspections of generation and transmission resources then by all means go after them.
But inflammatory remarks regarding all of this is not what we as Texans need right now. What we need is to come together and pick each other up.

Every left-wing nut will use this as a way to try to get into Texas and change things for the worst.
So until the information comes out and blame can be placed it is just a freak weather occurrence in my eyes.

With that said I hope yall are doing well and have power and water back on.

Charlie posted this on another thread. It explains a little about what happen in 2011, and why nothing happened. I think this article belongs here.
