Agree 150%. Texas ERCOT had a chance to join with other states' ERCOTs but declined. Think this happened under Perry's time but may be wrong.

"And then there’s the Texas exceptionalism. The state’s power grid is largely disconnected from the rest of the U.S. — for political, not technical reasons. That has left Texans largely unable to draw on power supplies from their neighbors, although many of them are suffering similar problems.

Add to that a lack of any sort of capacity market that would pay generators to guarantee back-up supplies or face stiff penalties and you end up with a system that only works when everything runs smoothly."

That happy crappy deal is part of it too. You take winter serious in an old pos trailer. Water lines freeze.

We have done (and not done) so much stupid crap just because of idiot political optics considerations I’m beginning to wonder if it’s even possible to get back to a time where reason was the foundation for decisions.

We opted out for this very reason, of the assets that we have enrolled I bet next year they look at the financials and pull them off the program

I have been texting with my buddy in Fort Stockton for the last few days. He lives 2 blocks from the police department and should be on the grid that has continuous power. Nope for the last 4 days nothing on the electrical side.

He called TNMP today his provider and asked about when they might get power. The rep advised ERCOT would not give them permission to turn on that grid so nothing. He asked when it was anticipated he might have electricity and was advised ERCOT could not tell TNMP when it could/would happen.

In this circumstance it’s called accountability and I several hang for it.

I have a smart meter and have never lost power. I thought every house has been converted to a smart meter. My REP use to send me weekly usage but they quit. I complained when I was with them before and they told me I could go on the net and get it. Not sure I want to see it right now.

There's still quite a few coal mining operations in Texas.

The coal that fuels the electric generators about 5 miles from me comes from Texas.

And my understanding is that Texas coal burns dirty and part of the reason to shut them down. Although I think Wyoming coal is also lignite. My sister and BIL had property about 5 miles from a coal fired generation plant in WV. Their property got condemned and they received a nice pay out. I am glad they got out of there when they did for my nieces sake. My BIL thinks the coal dust caused my sister's ocular melanoma.

Sadly, we may have lost our way in Texas and put politics above all else. Now, they are looking for a "Scapegoat" to axe to pay for their sins. Huh, history tends to repeat itself.

Question: energy demand forecast is below supply and reserve levels on ERCOTs website, so why are we still having blackouts?

Just read on the internet that Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, is making "billions" off high demand by charging "Premium prices." He is very entitled to make whatever amount he can but is not like Mattress Mac of Houston who usually shows some empathy in disastrous times.

Jerry doesn't set the price. He sends it to market, the market sets the price.

Yeah, Mattress Mac opened all his stores as warming shelters to anyone. He's even serving them hot food at his locations.

Anyone heard from Mark Cuban? bolt
