Seeing as I'll be 50 next year, I'm looking to treat myself to my first elk hunt in 2022. Specifically, I'm looking for a Oct/Nov cow elk hunt and would prefer a fully guided lodge/ranch format. Any recommendations for WY elk outfitters? I have done a lot of research and have some outfitters on my short list, but it always helps to get the word on the street from fellow hunters.

Forget the cow hunt your only 50 once, go shoot a bull.
Call BJ Hill he owns Swiftcreek Outfitters and these guys are Elk Specialist. All hunts are fair chase wilderness horse back hunts.
Here is my 2015 346 7X7 bull I killed.

I hear ya - and that makes sense for a lot of hunters. But I have to be honest, though I can appreciate a nice rack, I just don't care that much about the trophy. Heck - I'm not sure I even have room for it. The meat is actually my trophy. That being the case, the $5k uncharge doesn't really make sense for me. Now having said that, maybe the bull bug will bite me once I get exposed to elk hunting, but for right now, a freezer full of elk cow is what's calling my name.

if you are doing a cow elk hunt lots of places closer to Georgia than Wyoming.

I can tell you, you won't want to go all that way just to shoot a cow.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Checkout the Elk Ranch in Jacksboro, TX. he'll drive you out in a SXS and tell you which one to shoot. Price is $1000.00.

Great way to come enjoy our state for much less than a bull.
Yes you could shoot a cow in a pen but why if you want the experience near or in the mountains.

Look into Tyler Sims Outfitting, Spur Outiftters, Y3 outfitters - might be Forbes now, Wy-Con outfitters, and Battle Pass.
All have elk hunts on NF or ranches.
I can say area 6 cow tags are always left over, Keil Outdoors might be some help in area 6.

Some areas open in Aug for rifle cow hunting. Sept would be good time to hunt them, Nov. could be snowy and very cold or late might depend on migration hunt.

Check out West Texas outfitters for elk hunts in the Trans Pecos region. Very large ranches and you can hunt them in Sept or Oct. No fences, no draw, no seasons and weather will be great up in the mountains. You can hunt for what your budget allows. If your budget allows throw in an Aoudad hunt also.

Steve here's an outfit near us and cow tags could be bought OTC, always some left for this area. They have great bull hunting too.

http://www.ironmountainoutfitters.com/

I know one of their guides, good guy.
Deer for this Region can be drawn with 0-1 PP also and some good bucks to be found in there.

Appreciate the 411. I made a lot of calls yesterday, and I think I have it narrowed down to Best of the West or Tyler Sims. Both seem top shelf.

And for the guys wondering why I would travel all the way to Wyoming to shoot a cow elk, I’ll take any excuse I can get to visit one of the most beautiful states in our country, elk or no elk. I’ll save up my preference points for a big bull in the future.

Tyler has a good rep. here in town. Don't know Best of the West guys but I do know they like long range hunting.
Depending on how many PP you have either might be a great scouting trip for your bull hunt later.

Yeah - Tyler seems like good people. I'm leaning a little bit more towards Best of the West, because the nearest airport (Jackson Hole) is 1.5 hours from camp vs. Tyler's place being 2.5 hours from the nearest airport (Denver). The elk unit (92) BOTW hunts also seems a little more mountainous and what I envision as a classic western elk hunt, but Tyler is definitely still in the running. Both outfitters definitely seem to be A level, so either way, I can't lose.

You can fly right to Laramie via DIA also.
BOTW would be the backcountry experience for sure , you will enjoy it.

Tyler may have a lease in a certain LQ area that would produce a big bull , keep that in mind for later.
