I took my unit off of "Emergency Heat" for the first time in 5 days. Minus 3 at my house yesterday a.m. and back up to 21 right now. Doing a good job keeping the house toasty so far. Have you had to use emergency heat on your unit. Mine is a 5 ton 3 year old Trane but it couldn`t keep up after the temperature got down around 17-18 degrees and falling.

I’ve elect mine on 60 the whole time. It runs for a little while then turns off. Guess we got good insulation.

Heat pump here. Don't like the emergency heat option unless absolutely necessary. Yep it has been cold but a little fire going and dressing in layers saves $$ and energy.

Keep ours on 68° when we’ve got power.

All I have is 20 KW strip heat. Waiting for Spring to upgrade to heatpump. No power since Sunday night.

20KW ain’t small! Most 1bedroom apartments are 5KW, a 2 bed is 8KW.

I wasn`t concerned about the cost of using the heat pump. I was more concerned about keeping the house warm enough so no pipes burst and nothing flooded like so many will do when it gets above freezing.. I also had to keep my garage warm with electric heater, heat lamp and 60,000 BTU griddle because my water heater, pressure tank and main water line from my well are in it on a north wall.
