Long story but the short of it is my wife got stranded at DFW yesterday when travelling back from helping her elderly parents move. Given that we are having a heck of a time getting another flight til late this week, I am considering making the drive from Austin area to DFW and back tomorrow as she is stuck in a hotel that has been without power all day.

If anyone has been on that route today, how were the roads? How are the roads around DFW? Thanks.

I’ve played on some local roads and business 121 today. The soft snow is now turning to black ice on the cleared lanes(s). Different areas have different levels of snow and ice. IF you’re going to do it, I would look at a window of about 10a-5p

Road conditions as of 10 minutes ago are changing for the bad.

Not much help, but I think it’s doable

I'd agree with that as well. I didn't get on any of the major highways today, but everything around here in midcities that melted has already frozen. It's slick out there right now. I'd imagine tomorrow will be worse than today as far as road conditions go until enough traffic has been on it to melt the ice again.

Thanks gents! Not sure if I'll do it yet but think tomorrow is my window before the next rounds of precipitation hit.

Thanks for the info! BIL! I'm letting the truck warm and the sun get out and headed north.

I would prefer that they just leave the snow cover on the roads. They plow and the stuff thaws with sunlight and freezes over night making black ice. Snow is easy to drive on especially compared to ice.

This is 1-35 in Waco still lots of ice and snow on the ground. Where I live last night vehicles were still going off the road. Road is good then it’s iced up. People going to fast then hitting ice.

Made it there and back by 6pm. Also, got the daughter, SIL, grandson and two dogs brought over here as they have been without power in Georgetown most of the day. Fortunate to have power.

Roads werent bad for the most part on 35. the worst was through towns like Temple, Waco, around DFW airport, and the roads from 35 to Cedar Park.. it was just a little slower going. Thanks to everyone for your information on the road conditions, it is greatly appreciated!
