You can gas them anytime but it helps if it's a warmer winter day. You need to find the dens.

Sweetwater Texas. Has the rattlesnake round up every year. I don’t believe it’s the first or second week of March

Damn Stompy, that's a biggun. Glad I didn't hear no shake and shimmy when I was over there last year

You can see the two .45 caliber holes in the back of it's head... Ammo prices being what they are, and all...

A box of these would sure get the attention of porch pirates.

I can see it now. Put a big box on your front porch, with a switch on the bottom and a loud-azz rattle and vibrator inside!! Find the neighbor dead from a heart attack on your sidewalk. smile

I went to high school in Sweetwater and caught hundreds of the darn things. Back then we got around $5 a pound for them which was good beer money. I think they offer guided hunts for them in conjunction with the roundup which is in March. If you want to do it on your own find south facing rock out crops with cracks or holes and pump gas fumes from a bug sprayer into the holes. The snakes will start pouring out. It can be quite scary as they will come out from everywhere. I remember one time in particular we were in a dry creek bed and pumping gas in a hole about waist level. We had caught two or three snakes when all of a sudden one came tumbling down the rock face from over our heads.

Is it Walnut Springs(?) where they have a little snake roundup deal? Some little town close to Lake Whitney with a buncha bars/restaurants on the main drag and that seems to be about the whole town. I think its a common motorcycle ride from dfw.

Freer TX used to have the state's 2nd biggest one after Sweetwater, may still have it. Steve McMichael of Chicago Bears fame and former Freer resident used to always show up in 80s and earlier 90s...Understand that it was quite fun to visit.
