So the new Burris BTS series of thermals run on one of my favorite batteries, the 18650. They are relatively inexpensive, non-proprietary, rechargeable batteries that have a comparatively long run time and will recharge hundreds of times. GREAT! These are commonly hardwired into electronics such as laptop computers. The problems are multifold because of the various ways in which thermal runaway can occur which may result in venting, fire, and explosion. The batteries often don't have protective circuitry to prevent thermal runaway events. Many claim to have it and don't due to counterfeit manufacture.
I don't understand why other similar loose Lithium ion batteries are safe, but 18650s aren't or can't be made safe.
Maybe Burris will want to rethink their offering and go with something a little more appropriate such as protected 21700 batteries?
