bummer about the dog not working out, we got two livestock guardian dog mixes and so far they seem to leave the baby goats we have alone

One other problem with the dog was that the Ibex beat the crap out of him when I got him. They I guess associated him with a coyote or other predator. If he got closer than a about 100 ft. they would go after him. Then when the first kid was born he bit it in the head and killed it. Believe me, I have tried it all. I even have these predator lights that blink randomly at night. I have stay tuff predator proof wire and even 4"X4" cattle panels on the perimeter of the place. I put snares in holes and cover others up with rocks or caliche. One of the problems I have now is a neighbor who has around 1000 acres is clearing the entire place of cedar. Has had a dozer there for over 5 months dozing and piling the cedar. It would it had displaced a lot of coyotes that used to call that rough place home. I will get the coyote or coyotes that got the deer and the Ibex. Hopefully it won't do too much killing before I do.

I hope you get them sir

Coyotes eat deer. Always have. Always will. Predator and prey. It's called nature. Don't see why so many are upset about it.

Great Pyrenes are better with protecting when they are raised with what they are supposed to protect as a pup. We raised show goats for 4H for 15 years, and lost kids and goats when i brought in a grown dog, but after getting pups in the pens with them, never lost another kid or adult. Might give it a try with a pup.

I don't see anyone "upset". Maybe frustrated because coyotes can get smart and beat what predator control measures you have in place.

Most people that manage deer and exotics know the losses coyotes can inflict. I doubt your nature sermon is educating anyone.

I am not upset about the deer. What I am upset about is that the coyote got one of my Ibex and for some reason let go. But now it has a hard time eating because of the neck and jaw wound. She probably won't make it. The probably $2500 I could sell her for in a year or 2 is no big deal. Maybe if coyotes ate one of your dogs or cats or some other pet or animal you raised for your lively hood then your attitude about nature would change. If not then I feel sorry for you.

What’s your preferred method for catching and killing them. Personally I’ve found coyotes much harder to kill than I expected.

I have found snares to work the best for me. I have good fences around the perimeter of the place. Holes under the fence where coyotes dig in are easy to see. They will throw dirt and rock back a few feet from the hole. I put a snare in the hole under the fence. Have a 6 to 8 inch loop in the snare. Tie it to the fence with a very light wire so that it comes loose easily. I have a bottle of canine call used for trapping. I will put a drop of it in the hole. I check them every few days to make sure armadillos or something else has not messed up the snare. I will close up holes when there gets to be too many. One snare every few hundred yards is plenty.
