I am in search of a quality new light weight (not ULTRA light) stock (around 24-28 ounces) for my next build. This will be a 20-22” carbon barreled (Proof or Bartlein) mountain/sheep/goat rifle purely for hunting with shots never beyond 500-600 yds. I prefer a neutral comb or even negative comb as I personally feel it helps manage recoil better and it IMO feels more comfortable when taking prone shots. I also prefer a more vertical grip.

I have a Manners EH1 on a 300 Norma Improved that I really like, but it’s simply too much weight wise. Stocks I am considering are the following:

Alterra (formerly Axial Precision I believe) Carbon Hunter
McMillain Game Scout with Edge fill
AG Composites Carbon All Terrain
Manners EH-4

This list is comprised simply based on online reviews and appearances. I have no experience with any of them in person. Anyone with an opinion on any of these? I am also open to other recommendations not listed. I really like the Manners EH-4 but can only find 2-3 threads of someone with experience using it. I don’t care about build time as I have lots of time before this will really be needed. I would prefer obviously to touch and shoulder it before buying but sometimes that isn’t an option.

Thanks.

A3 Sporter

Game Hunter for a Tikka 308

Game Scout for my lightweight Tikka 7 mag

Love them all but I really like the A3 sporter, mainly because of the forearm.

Do you by chance weight any of those stocks prior to the rifle build? I greatly appreciate your reply. They all look great.
