Trans Pecos region of Texas would be a great spot for me if I could afford it and I had to move in the state...western Kansas if I had to leave Texas. Mixed bag for hunting and not many people....those that live there are nice folks.

Oklahoma’s state income tax is still cheaper than living in Texas, or at least it was for me when I lived in Tulsa for 8 years. Yes you pay state income tax but the property tax is tiny, auto registrations are cheap, no registering trailers, etc etc etc. It works out to be a wash at worst or better if you have a lot of property.

It would probably be Oklahoma, I have access to several family ranches and one old dairy farm to hunt. A good place to land would be Tenkiller Ferry Lake or Fort Gibson Lake. The first would put me 1 hour from family land and the second one is only 30 minutes. It sure would beat the 5.5 hours now and the cost of out of state hunting license is terrible.

I have a friend who bought land near Alpine area to retire. He was pizzed after election and AZ turned to democrat. He’s very much a gun “enthusiast”.

Alpine is where I would go. Love that town ( town is a stretch ) and area. I can walk into the general store there with a unlicensed pistol on my hip and buy a deer and bear tag plus a bottle of whiskey and no one can say a damn thing about it.

Arizona is the only state I regularly see people open carry. I like it.

Oklahoma for me also. We just moved back from almost 3 years out in West Texas (Knickerbocker to be exact). While we loved many things about it (the people can't be beat anywhere) we just couldn't do the lack of rainfall. Sounds like a small deal but it wasn't for us, we are both from the Cross Timbers area and the lack of trees/rain/rivers/lakes out there killed it for us.
