Can anyone provide recommendations for a king eider and harlequin hunt? I need to go before I get too old. It’s always been a dream hunt of mine.

Go with Moe néale and jeff wasley at Aleutian island outfitter. I’ve hunted with a couple of those groups and recommend Moe’s outfit.

Jeff Wasley is no longer with Aleutian Island Outfitters. I would avoid Wasley. I hunted with him 2018. I have nothing good to say about him so I won't say anything at all. But I will say that one of the other guys in my group would have left mid trip if he could have gotten a flight home.

Brazos when it comes to king eiders. most the hunts i have seen go along the lines of spending multiple days at the airport waiting for a weather window that allows for you to fly out to st. paul. once on st paul you then wait for a weather window to get out and hunt. once you have that window you shoot your 4 kings in 30-45 minutes and your done. thats the trip and then you repeat the process getting back to mainland alaska. it seems like it more of a trip for someone who is looking for a king to check the species off the list and or a mount. its that roughly in line with what you have experienced?

I work for a Charter service up here on the Kenai Peninsula. We run trips on Kodiak island. My company runs ducks as a side gig for their deer hunts... they kill birds but they aren’t good good at It. I’m going to get them dialed in for 2022. I ordered a 2 man layout boat out of Wisconsin yesterday and we will use It this year along with a few other tricks. I guided for 22 years in Lubbock, I’lI get these birds figured out in short order. Lol

Going anywhere in AK to duck hunt in Dec/Jan is like that. Travel is a mess at best and I always suggest getting to anchorage early and doing an overnight to give plenty of time. You are pretty spot on when it comes to kings. If you get plan A right, getting your four is easy. I’ve been there 3x abs got 2 the first trip on the first hunt then spent 5 days shore hunting and getting a few harlis. I can say I’ve never gotten all 4 birds in one hunt. I’m hoping to go back one more time but the island is on complete lockdown right now. Having hunted several other remote islands up there, one thing is consistent. The weather runs the show and many times there is no plan B.

Talk with Chris Brown at Alpine Taxidermy, DFW area. He has been to Alaska twice, at least, with successful hunts. He has taken every species of waterfowl in North America, and he is a terrific taxidermist. He can hook you up with guides and information.

He was there just this year hunting, pretty sure this round was for Emperors I think.
