HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans have parted ways with star defensive end J.J. Watt after he asked for his release.

Watt was drafted by the Texans in 2011 with the No. 11 pick and became the face of the franchise, winning three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards from 2012-15. Watt is one of three players to win that award three times.

Cowboys could use old Watt but he probably wants to play for a winner.

Can't say I blame JJ. He stuck with the chit show a long time.

If he wants out NOW after what all he has been through with the Texans, I hate to think what that means regarding recent changes. Basically, if it's so bad JJ wants out... it has to be REALLY bad.

Free agent, hasn't played in about half the games over the past couple of years, broken, put his time in, huge cap hit of 17mil next year...I would like to think they shopped him around. However, who wants someone who hasn't shown up for work most of the past few years is a tough pill to swallow for that much money for a draft pick(s). So he will go play for a discount somewhere for a few years.

Poor guy...class act and helluva player in a bad organization on a crappy team. Never had shot at a ring. Reminds me of a certain Dallas TE....Witten and Watt need to go have a few beers together

When a guy who is riddled with injury looking at last years stats isn’t an good enough in-depth look. Heck you don’t want to look at his stats, 5.5 sacks in 2019 isn’t worth the price. Since 2016 he has played in 48 of 80 games. 2018 and 2020 are the only seasons he has played all 16 games. The amount of money being paid isn’t worth the production.

As far as guy who “deserves” a ring, you can say that for 100’s of players, life isn’t fair, however at the end of the day he will look at the life he has had and the bank account.....doubt he will regret much of anything.
