Every rifle I own will come out of the safe and shoot lights out or I won’t own it. Love these old stories and have old rifles that will tell them but I demand 100% reliability out of all my rifles. My first bolt gun was/is a 788 22/250 and my dads is a post 64 M70 25-06.

This. Reliability first and accuracy a very close second. The rifle that does this for me is a Remington 700 Varmint in .308. I have always had at least one of these in the safe since 1996. With handloaded 150 Grain Nosler Ballistic Tips it just works.

Just my .02,

My 25 year old Rem 700 in 300 Win Mag. Been heavily modified and topped with a Ziess HD-5. 4x15 scope. It’s a killing machine.

I love the 270, was my first deer rifle. It earned my respect. I'm sure that gun would still be my go-to deer rifle if it wouldn't have been stolen from me.

I'm a 270 lover too! I've been using a 270 for over 40 years. I've got a Browning stainless steel stalker that I've had for over 30 years with a 3x9 Pentax scope. It has killed every kind of big game animal that you can hunt in Alaska, except buffalo. (they have a bullet size limitation for the hunt) I've shot mule deer and whitetails with it in several states and lots of hogs here in Texas. My grandkids hunt with 270's and I've converted several of my friends to 270 shooters.

Sako Forester in .308 I spotted in a pawnshop some 20 years ago. I replaced the old fixed four power scope that was mounted on it when I bought it with a decent Bushnell 3X9, and feed it a mild kicking load I conjured up featuring a Sierra Game King 150 grain bullet..... The old rifle just feels right, and has been death on Texas hogs and deer every time it has been called into play.

Mine is a Winchester model 70, classic, featherweight in 270. It wears a 6X, Leupold. My wife bought this for me, as an anniversary gift in 1993. I know when I squeeze the trigger, the bullet is going where I am aiming.

Mine is a very plain Savage 110 in .270. It is topped with a Leupold VII 3x9x40 i bout at work one night. I bought the rifle new in the box in 1992. I’ve put the scope on in 97 and it has never moved. She’s not real pretty but she puts out real well.

Dad's old Remington 722.
It was rechambered to .223 Wylde by Chucks gun shop in Austin in early 60's.
It's a little load sensitive due to barrel twist but with a 60gr SP handload, it's the tackdriver that all family guns are compared to.

Cheers,
