Have a question for those that hunt with the 25-06. What bullet has given you the best penetration for WT's? The load for the wife's gun is very accurate but most of the time, no pass thru and that means very little to none on blood trails. Am thinking about the Barnes, Hornady gMX or Partition. I have not had much luck with the degree of accuracy I expect with the Partition. Never shot the Barnes or the GMX in the 25. Any & all help welcomed. Thanks Daniel

100gr partition and 100gr ttsx

Accubonds get solid penetration and accuracy. Berger 115 is the choice these days don't exit often but there hasn't been any run after being hit either.

I’ll vouch for the 115 grain partitions.

Hornady 117gr SST. Depending on the size of the deer you may not get a pass through but it's not needed. Shoot slightly forward of the front leg and the deer will drop in its tracks and never get up again vs the deer dropping and then getting up a few seconds later and running off like what happens if you use a tougher bullet such as a bonded core or a solid copper bullet.

Berger 115 VLD performs great on WT

I use the 117gr SSTs too and they are great out of my Remi 700. Very accurate.

One of the reasons I prefer Partitions is I want blood coming out both sides and it always delivers, get the ttsk moving fast enough to perform and I see it doing the same thing.

Anyone used the Hornady GMX, I think it is a 100 gr but not sure. It should act very much like the Barnes TTSX. Of course I have to locate them first and right now, it won't make any difference to me but before next deer season, I will have tried all three bullets if not on deer then hogs.

I loaded the 165 grain GMX in my 300 wby. I shot several deer and hogs with it. Shot a spike buck in the neck on a mld hunt and his head nearly fell off, shot several in the body with next to no expansion. To me they behaved very much like the early x-bullets from barnes in that expansion was very hit/miss.

Try the 115 grain Barnes and you'll never have another problem with a 25-06. I've harvested two bull elk with complete pass through. The deer I've used them on never had a chance. Not the cheapest but the best.

Third these. I don't get pass thru's with these, but the internal devastation is incredible and deer don't go far. Very accurate in my rifle too.

This is what I am loading at the present time, They are very accurate but seldom exit & if the deer gets 10 yds into the extremely dense timber & brush without a blood trail you are very lucky to find the deer. Had a gentleman with thermal looking and brush so thick he couldnt find it either and this is not the first time with the same results. Had we been hunting on a different part of ranch where you can see 50-100 yds, would have been no problem.

Partition is a personal favorite. The soft front gives good expansion and the partition means its going through.

The accuracy has never been an issue for hunting with them. I get just as good a grouping out of them as sierra gameking/prohunters and hornday interlocks etc.

110 grain Accubond and H-1000, all day, every day. 1/2-3/4 MOA performer. I haven't killed a deer yet, but have wasted a couple of 200-250 lb pigs with that combo. They dropped in their tracks and bullets blew right through with good wound channels. You won't be disappointed.

kb1035, what is your muzzle velocity with that load? Daniel

According to my records, MV averaged 3163 f.p.s. out of a Remington 700 w/24" barrel. My best results were with 58 gr. of H-1000. Obviously, work up to that if you try it, but it should be just below max in most guns. I use RP brass and either CCI or RP primers.

I've been meaning to try Retumbo too. I suspect it would give good results. Nosler's load data web page shows MV of 3267 with a max load of it. Good luck!

The 110 gr accubond would be my choice, never owned a 25-06 but in the 257 WBY it works very good. When I had a 257 Roberts it was the 100gr Partition which worked well in it.

I should have 3 boxes of 120 gr partitions in my hands tomorrow if FEDEX tracking info is correct. Daniel

That will work, if she gets an elk infront of her it will work with good shot placement on it also.
