Waiters make diddly. I gladly tip pretty well, especially understanding that now they only have half the customers as before.
They work hard and they get stiffed on a regular basis, ask one.

But I agree, tips are for service. That shouldn’t change.

I have seen tip lines added to all sorts of receipts lately. Some fast food places and a feed store.

I tip for service. I have been quite more generous since the lockdown.

I also agree, but they are EARNED for the service they provide.

One thing that is done right in Europe is no tipping. You pay for your meal and leave.

I don't have a problem with the increased minimum wage.

Some waiters make better money than we might realize. We had a waitress ad 20% to our tab and their were 6 at the table. I don't like it and won't continue to go to those places. Like others have mentioned I usually tip well and even better for good service.

You’re good with $15.00 an hour?

Agreed. Good even so so service equals a tip. I ate a crappy meal at the airport in New Jersey, service was horrible. Really horrible. So no tip from me. That entitled azz waitress threw a FIT about not getting tipped. Yelled at me and everything in front of everybody. I said ma’am if you’d do your job instead of talking to your girlfriend and ignoring your customers you’d get a tip. I’m not tipping you for nothing.

Bill's good with $15 an hour and $15 a gallon. His "share."

That’s the way it is in Singapore too. They don’t believe in tipping. I didn’t know that and ticked off some locals a few times. Expats tip and the locals don’t, locals don’t like it because it makes them look bad.

Enjoy the 12 dollar Quarter Pounder with Cheese the next time you are at McDonalds. That is what a $15/hr minimum wage will do.

Get a better job, school/training, etc. Figure it out.
Out of HS I was loading trucks driving a forklift in 100+ degree weather and it sucked. I told myself there had to be something and there was The U.S. Navy!
Attended several schools got the training and had a 40 year career in IT/Computers.

There is no law that says you have to pay a tip automatically added. I have marked out auto tips on several occasions when the service sucked and put the tip I wanted.
Plus if a waiter is making 15.00 an hour the tip does not need to be as large.
It would be more like tipping in Europe where a tip is not expected and if one is left it is a small amount just to show appreciation for good service.

This is being pushed by the big corporations, it will rid the big companies of mom & pop business competition. Americans are missing the big picture.

When I was bartending I was pulling down 75-80k a year. I had a 401k, insurance and other benefits.

I usually pay with a card and tip with cash for any number of reasons.

I was recently at a restaurant in The Woodlands and the auto-gratuity was 25%. Too bad for the waiter and waitress because the service was great and I would have tipped more if it were left up to me. I let them know.

I have a question. I know my niece has to pool all her tips with the other employees...busboys, dishwashers and I think the hostess all get a cut of the tips. Are these people only making $2.13 an hour as well, or are they making minimum wage and then getting a portion of the tips on top of that? Because to me, that would be wrong.

When I was 16, I worked at Sonic. We made minimum wage $4.25/hr back then (I got a raise after my first week and kept getting them for the 9 months I was there) and the carhops made minimum wage plus tips. They didn't split them or anything...but all they did was carry the food out. We had to take the order, cook the food, prepare the handmade onion rings every morning (yes, they were made fresh by hand everyday), clean the floors, etc. The fountain worker checked the orders and made the drinks before they were sent out and the carhops got all the glory and extra money. Always seemed wrong to me. I loved my time at Sonic, it was actually a pretty good gig and I made almost 2 times minimum wage by the time I left, but still, it just struck me wrong that the carhops got the tips on top of making minimum wage.
