I went by the gun shop in Groesbeck about an hour ago. Last time I was in there, maybe a month ago, their ammo was depleted, but they had plenty pistols and rifles. Not much there now in the way of handguns, but there were some rifles. There were fewer than 4 handguns in the case. There was some ammo, but I didn’t look at what calibers were there. No primers. There were some Hornady bullets. Lots of scopes, accessories for ARs, and lots of Black Rifle coffee

A local gun shop (Shotgun Blasters) is going out of business due to them not being able get product. Sounds crazy, but they are effectively going out of business due to too much demand.

^^^ Shotgun Blasters...

That's not the only reason they're closing up shop. I have it from a very reliable source that they have had ATF issues...something about 11-12 lost guns on ATF audit. They would take guns to gun shows and did not account for all the inventory being brought back to the shop. Owners sought help but didn't listen to the advise being given.

I do feel for the gun stores. They're capitalists, so they want to make as much as they can. But some folks get mad at them for price gouging when demand is high. If they don't price gouge they have nothing on the shelves, which ticks off other folks. It's something of a no-win for them, except financially.

One of my shops is about the only one in the Metromess with ammo. They have other shops buying firearms from them, just so they can get items into their own shops.

I'm surprised when I go in a gunshop and see any ammo.

The shops getting ammo now are the ones with established volume/business with their wholesalers. Most of the ammo is already allocated when received, a good salesman will make sure his best customers have first crack at it, rather than a dealer who seldom buys from them. Its been that way since the shortages during the Clinton days.

That can make it hard on new or small volume purchasers.

100% correct. Dealers spending (example) $200K + a year with a distributor is going to get preference over small dealer spending $1K.
