My father in law just called me and asked if I knew anything about a hog hunting contest in childress county. He seemed to think he was told the winner would get a pretty big pot of money. I tried to argue it with no luck. Are any of you familiar with it and if so how much would the winner get?

There are a lot of good sized hogs up there. It will take quite a stack to win the contest.

I live and trap here in Childress and haven't heard anything about it. Usually my buyer is up to date on this stuff. Asked around and Wise County is the only one heard of.

He might have been talking about wise co. Yes the pot was over 50k. I thought that was crazy cash. I guess with the way this world is going, nothing is to crazy to believe.

Well I found it. This is crazy cash and it is open to any hog taken in Texas.

agree ... I have a friend relatively new to hog hunting and a year or so back, he posted on Facebook that he shot a 400# hog, I challenged him on it and said let me see a picture on the scale, of course he didn't have one. I said I have a scale and you need to buy one or borrow mine before posting stuff like that. A few weeks later he said he shot an even bigger hog but weighed it at 228#. I chimed in uh huh. He now has a better appreciation since he bought a scale.

that's some serious coin for hogs. I wish I had known about it, I might have entered but haven't taken anything in the past couple of years that would even be top 10 on the list posted above so far. My biggest to date was 378# in NW Burnet county over 40 years ago, yes on a scale at a local feed store.

Yep this is a pretty serious contest. They make you take polygraph and all before they hand you the prize winning check. I might have to join next year. I would swear I have taken one that broke 300 in willis tx but will never know the truth without the scale.

I will be following this one this year.
