I believe Hoyt Axton wrote this one...
You say it was this morning when you last saw your good friend Lyin' on the pavement with a misery on his brain Stoned on some new potion he found upon the wall Of some unholy bathroom in some ungodly hall He only had a dollar to live on 'til next Monday But he spent it on some comfort for his mind Did you say you think he's blind? Someone should call his parents, a sister or a brother And they'll come to take him back home on a bus But he'll always be a problem to his poor and puzzled mother Yeah he'll always be another one of us He said he wanted Heaven but prayin' was too slow So he bought a one way ticket on an airline made of snow Did you say you saw your good friend flyin' low? Flyin' low Dyin' slow
If you`re running down my country, man, You`re walking on the fighting side of me. (Merle)

I'm a rollin' stone all alone and lost For a life of sin I've paid the cost When I pass by all the people say Just another guy on the lost highway

He'd never been there when he recorded it. But...along with several others, he helped ruin the place.

I bet my friends are wondering where I've been or I'm still alive There worried over nothing they should know I'm perfectly fine Its just the mood I'm in now and then When I need to get my head clear I turn off my phone get lost get gone flat out dissapear Well there aint no telling where I'm bound A big city or the county or little beach town But you wont find me cause I cant be found I'm on a mission to be missing I'll be back someday I dont know when Till then I'll be a feather floating in the wind So dont you go missing me Cause sometimes missing me is my favorite place to be
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I've been down to the bottom a bottle I live my life stuck in full throttle And slowing down, slowing down Keeps grinding my gears. And I took risks I never should've taken And I broke hearts that didn't need breakin' And I don't know why, don't know why I can't cry tears. And I just can't seem to walk the line It's always been easy to say goodbye When I'm always running And nothing gonna change my mind. And I just can't seem to get a clue I never seem to think things through It's T.U.F.F. tough I can't win the fight With the fool inside of me.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I'm tired of this dirty old city And tired of too much work And never enough play And I'm tired of these dirty old sidewalks Think I'll walk off my steady job today Turn me loose, set me free Somewhere in the middle of Montana And give me all I've got coming to me And keep your retirement And your so-called Social Security Big city turn me loose and set me free

He said, I left California back in '76 the music died with Jimi Hendrix things got crazy in San Francisco But thumbin' cross the country, I thought I would freeze So I followed Buffet to the Florida Keys Where I nearly got busted, with a load,of snow white cargo
But I picked up this boat, in a illegal deal You could say, I got a hell of a steal But I couldn't stay there, so I headed to Islamado But as a sea captain, I ain't worth a damn Out in the ocean I got all turned around Then I limped into Bolliver, with a hole in my hull
I said if I ain't sinkin', well I must be swimin' If I ain't dead, I must be livin' Livin' is the thing, that scares me the most And if I ain't sleepin', well I better be fishin' If I ain't anchored I will be driftin' But all and all, I'm doing pretty good, since I hit my third coast
