Son wanted to help out on the grill and learn to cook. So we did something simple. I had them fried just like that at a Cuban restaurant in Key West, and were freakin' delicious. Don't need to over smash them, but smash them more if you like.

If they're thin, I just hit them once with the bottom of the coffee cup. Really thick, and they get two whacks!!!

Good job. I like a little more smash on my plantains tho, for the second fry. First time cooking them. I was afraid to smash them to much and them fall apart. Definitely do a little thinner next time. But they were delicious. What the heck are tostones? Looks good, but what is this ^^^ Fried plantains.
