Several years back there was a guy on another forum that tried to make modern day powder. A mistake cost him and his son their lives. He as have many made black powder as needed, so even after reading warnings he never thought modern day powder could be so dangerous. As to black powder, easy peasy, plenty of good info on survival blogs. But safety rules still need to be followed, even firework makers blow up every so often. I recommend asking in the muzzleloader forum, maybe one or more will share their secrets of living through through the manufacturer of BP.

I think Dogcatcher's answer was basically, "you don't want to mess with making your own smokeless powder. Try making your own black powder and you will probably live to see tomorrow."

Brief? - Take some nitro-glycerin and 'trick' it to 'burn slow'. That's it. nuts rofl

Alfred Nobel was the first guy (to survive) to at least 'trick' it to not self-detonate - and he named his product 'dynamite'!
Takes A LOT more know-how ( and MANY safety precautions) to 'trick' it to burn even slower.
NOT a DIY process!!
And the question is not 'now long', but how much $$ and risk to 'try' making.
With enough $$, it's not 'hard to make', but rather 'hard to make some that is long-term stable'.

If you must know more: - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokeless_powder

I like the way some of you think or DON'T. Nothing I have said should have given anyone the idea that I was going to make smokeless or black powder. I am simply interested in how it is made and why it takes so long for manufactures to get new shipments to the retail store. BTW I have been around more smokeless powder in my lifetime than problably ALL of you.

For about 5 years I took the powder bags that maybe many gun crews used and started the process of remanufacturing that military powder into commercial civilian powder. Train car loads for days & days of various types of military powder. We were taught how to do what we were expected to do SAFELY but no details as to the actual process that made the powder we were working with. Not sure supervision knew.
