Pardon my ignorance, but what is the purpose ot the plate? Is it just to keep corn from dropping under the feeder?

I like them. I built a couple and slapped together my leg mounting brackets. Yours look professional. Well done!

Very nice looking builds txh6!!

Are the 85 gal drums heavier walled than the 55 gal? I ask because I see that you bolted your leg assemblies to them and I know the newer 55 gal drums are pretty thin.

I built a couple feeders years ago using 1.5 55 gallon drums for each so they are about 80 gallons and they will hold about 450 lbs of corn.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Yes sir they are a little heavier duty than 55-gallon drums, they are designed to set full 55-gallon drums in. There is a funnel inside, and they tend to hold close to 550lbs.

Where did you find funnels to fit the 85 gallon barrel?

Txhunter65.......I've had legs get water in them and freeze which rounds the lower section. You may want to consider drilling a hole right above the plate so water can drain.

Question......where did you get the leg assemblies at and what size square tubing did you use?

I drilled holes in the bottom of the feet, hopefully that will allow them to drain. Hole was about 3/4” in diameter.
To be honest I do t remember what size square tubing the legs were.

As an alternative to 85gal barrels, check with your local water well driller and see if they have any reject or warrantied pressure tanks. They generally are thicker walled than barrels which allows you to directly weld the leg brackets on, and when inverted, have a natural "funnel" on the bottom. You'll need to clean out any internal rust prior to filling so they won't stop up.
