I have a pension. Plus will have social security, minus the windfall exemption.
Plus I have 401k.

I do plan on a mortgage when I retire. I estimate healthcare to be 1850 per month until 65.

You're gonna be fine. You're planning. up Well done. And you're doing it all the old-fashioned way, you're working for it.

We didn't have a mortgage when I retired in 2006. After working as a contractor we sold our house and bought a house on Lake Graham. I paid that mortgage off in 6 years working as a contractor. So we are debt free except for the normal bills people have,
water, electricity, food and such.

I will retire next month. I picked investments not eligible for social security @ 58. I have a work pension and been blessed with a few good investments. Wife gonna work for 3 more years. I have plenty to do. Have a small backhoe and do small jobs on the side. I buy and sell all kind of things. Today I fixed fence for about 4 hours. bang

Needed to be multiple choice or to have that included in the Second Option. Blessed to have both.

Retirement savings and debt are largely based on the life choices of the person. If someone wanted to keep up with the Jones' with new vehicles every few years, and a 375,000 dollar home for a typical 4-5 person family, good luck is all I can say.

Investments and savings for 4 more years, then I'll add SS. I'll still need to pull from investments, but not as much.

Social Security, pensions, IRAs/401k.....naw, that’s old school.
With the new Modern Monetary Theory we will all get Universal Basic Income as we print our way to prosperity!

His SS retirement will be nothing because he has not earned enough work credits. I hope he has a good life insurance policy on her.

It really wears on you when you have a son doing it. In my case, a stepson, but I still feel like I failed somehow.

I have been saving since I was 18, debt free since 26 . I drive piece of junk cars, wear mostly cheap clothes. My kids colleges are fully funded and their 2 and 5 . We will build a new house this year with no mortgage. I hope to retire in 5 years at age 46 . I dont make alot but I do save alot . Its not a one upper thing , its just making smart choices.

You young guys , start saving now and get it auto deposited, do it before you get married. That way they never know what its like to get a nice big check

I woukd like to get into financial advising as a small gig when I retire from my main one

Just to be clear, I've never been without a job in my life. I'm just gonna retire sooner then she will. I have had my 401k since I was 24. I'll probably retire at 57 just so I can fully retire from my company at 35 years.

Brad, good on you. Most youngsters don't think about tomorrow.

I would call that middle class and normal for most of Texas

When I was single I had a new house built in Argyle that I knew would make money ( I knew I would not want to live in Argyle long term) when I decided to get married. Was able to pay for half of my current house from the money . I knew My current house is half the size and 40 years older. But my investment worked out .

I drive a 2005 chevy full sized van that screams phyco, and a 2012 Dodge dully that just sits on the ranch. Its like a clock at work . We hire new guys and they drive a pos, 3 weeks later they all have brand new trucks.

I do buy my wife a new car every 5 years because she has the kids and she deserves something nice.

I have always spent far less on a house then I could afford. Built first one in Roanoke for $54k. I spent at least 50% of time on the road so did not need much. I got married had kids and changed jobs so I moved up. Built in Fate and once again less house then I could afford. My housing requirements were big lot, no HOA, good schools, no escrow, and no PMI. Now with kids gone I have more room then I need but have plenty of room to park boat and trailers.

I always did the buy the biggest house you could for the least amount of money, either by short sale or foreclosure or someone needing to sell due to divorce, change of job and relocation.

I find HOA houses to appreciate much more than non HOA houses.
