All good stuff, never seen dead birds under one, ever. Seen over 300 deer under one last year. Problem is, you are usually bordered on four sides, they come in and tell you they will put it on your neighbors fence line; or give you a bunch of thousands of dollars for damages and a monthly check to buy 3 F-250’s each month, what do you think most people do. Same with oil pipelines; they can come through your property like it or not. Over 300 deer underneath one wind turbine Who all on this forum has ever seen 300 Whitetail deer at one spot (food plot whatever) at the same time

Few years back I saw 95 on one 25 acre field. No big deal. If you have a good oat/wheat patch, you can see 25 easily a day.

That makes sense On the 2 1/2 - 3 acre food plot I used to hunt I saw 17 in the field at one time and that was on a 40 acre parcel with a lot of small acreage around me.

Wind turbines suck.
Visually ruin a lot of great country. They are getting them in New Mexico now outside of Vaughn and even south of 90 into old Mexico south of Sanderson. Really sucks to see.
Next up is solar farms.
In September I saw a 1500 acre solar farm in Uvalde. Simply disgusting.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

But NOT around any of the wind turbines... WT seem ta scare away the deer around here... maybe after several years of getting used to em... they WT make too much noise... Few nights ago driving ta apt from work.. Sky's were pitch dark, fog had rolled in... was pretty AWESONE reminded me of the pree WT years..

"About the only thing combustible in the WTG's are the gear oil."
Don't think so. Seen one years ago south of Sweetwater, guess the Generator overheated, and the top took off a blazing. Fiberglass burns with dark smoke and hot. Think the towers are metal.

I see them like that, usually where 180 and 351 split heading into Abilene. You can see all the plastic dripping from the blades and the cover around the generator is reduced to the metal structure.

Every one of those turbines has a distributed controller...an industrial computer that runs and protects the turbine, keeps it pointed the right way, protects it from overspeed. The control center operators says Run or Stop...the distributed controller figures out that rest.
Very one of those controllers has a unique IP address.
Somewhere there is a map showing every turbine in the farm.
That airplane warning light does not flash on its own, it is turned on and off by the controller.
Give me a couple of hours to study the map, then 30 minutes writing code to download to each controller.
I'll have the horizon looking like a giant set of chaser lights. I can't confirm it but I believe each unit has a outside power source to maintain the controllers and operate the lights, in essence it takes power to make power. Might be wrong but it sure makes sense. When the wind ain't blowing those lights still have to run or when the wind is blowing to hard and they shut down the turbine. We have hundreds that you can see from the big ranch and it's a rare occasion when all the units in one bank are running at one time. I've seen some that were down for well over a year, they don't seem to be in a big hurry to get them back on line when they break down.

Why are solar farms worse? There are some solar farms in New Mexico that literally almost cover a square mile of desert, where not even a cactus can grow.

There’s a 2,000 acre one that touches the southwest side of the ranch. We signed up for 125 acres on the east side out of necessity, that one will total over 2,000 acres. 6’ chain link with barb wire top, there won’t be a critter on that land for 40 years.

How much money does a WTG pay a landowner in rent ? The contract proposed to me in Young County was based on estimated power sold, and was $8800.00 per year per turbine to the best of my memory.

Coming into Texas on 40, they light up the sky once you pass Vega Tx headed East into Amarillo, Ruin the skyline in many areas IMO,
Don't know how true, but heard a talk show that was saying T B Pickens was slowing down as subsidy money was drying up

What about the ranchers, farmers or landowners who's land value declines because of their neighbors WTG should they be compensated also? Lets say you own 1,000 acres and you land is worth $4,000 - $4,500 an acre, now because WTG are placed next or close to your property the value has declined to $2,000 an acre wouldn't you be pissed?

I would be and I think they are ugly and hope to never see one close to my property or lease....

As much as we may assume that to be happening, it’s not for most part. Now appreciation maybe slower but it damn sure isn’t going negative. Not enough land for sale to do that. My buddy just sold his place because neighbor got wind turbines, it was an exponentially high ROI compared to stock market. I bought more land in panhandle a while back, wind turbine leases actually increased land values there. As much as I hate them in principle, land deception isn't one of the cause and effects of them.
