We put the last of these 3 down today. Sam in the middle would have been 17 next month. His system just finally gave out. Toby on the left was our ball player. Can't believe how many hours we laid on the floor and played. Roll the ball to him and he would push it back with his nose. Max, the black one was the first to go. Toby about a year later and now Sam. Will start looking for another in a couple weeks. Had a lot of good time with all three.

Someone on another forum said it best. Hardheaded but entertaining. We are down to one Doxie that we adopted a couple years ago after an older cousin passed away. Almost daily the wife and I are laughing at her antics.

Everyone, thanks for the comments. For those that have never had a Dauchshund, don't wait much longer. They are awesome.

Great dogs. We have one that does the same thing with a ball (push it with her nose).

We have two long haired Doxies and our Daughter has two. I am babysitting her's right now so we have four in the house. Never a dull moment. They are aged 12, 11, 9 and 5.

Very sorry to hear of your losses. I know how much they can mean to you.

Great picture. Sad times, but they had a great life with great owners.

Prayers for you brother as I know how tough it really is. They are truly part of the family.
Great looking little dogs. I have several friends who have them and they are very smart little rascals!

We laid our shorthair to rest two years ago this month on the 26 and to this day I still get tears when I visit her at her place under the shade tree by the tank.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Sorry for your loss. My dog is getting is starting to slow down at 12 years old. I heard this song the other day when we were driving back from filling feeders and chasing hogs.

Sorry for the loss of all of you pups. It hurts, no matter how tough you are, they are almost like kids.

Absolutely....!

We have a huge Oak Tree in our yard (about 6' across the trunk) with several crosses in the ground underneath it. Buried there are the most faithful friends (fury) I've ever known and the source of my greatest heartaches.

Each time we choose to share our lives with a Dog/Cat/Other we unwittingly set ourselves up for a heartache. Invariably we outlive them, their lives are fleeting so much faster than ours.

So....there comes the day when we must part. There really are not words to ease the pain. If you loved your friend....you WILL grieve and mourn the loss.

The best you can do is try to remember all the happy times you shared together and be satisfied in knowing you gave them the very best life they could have.

I hope they know how much they were loved. It's an unfair relationship....since they always seem to give US more than we can return. But we should always try.

If I could be half the man my dogs thought I was.....I would be doing pretty good.

In the end....strive to remember only the good times with them. And when the time is right....take in a new friend (NOT a replacement, there is no such thing) and give them the best life you possibly can. Fondly remember the ones that have passed on, but move forward with your life (they would want that for you).
