I'll try to keep this short but I found out something pretty interesting over the weekend which ended up putting me in the ER with a blood pressure of 218/118. Around 20 years ago I had my thyroid removed (Papillary Cancer) the doctor put me on Levothyroxine 150 mcg. Less than a month ago I went in for normal bloodwork and he said my T level was down and bumped it up to 200 mcg. Within a couple of weeks I notice my blood pressure running a little higher than normal. I take Amlodipene and it usually stays in the 120's but it seemed to be climbing. Friday I wasn't feeling well and the pressure was up to 150, Saturday it went up to 165 and Sunday it was 218/118. Even when I took another blood pressure pill it wouldn't come down. So they get in there and pull blood and run tests a little later the Doc starts questioning me about my thyroid meds. When I told him my meds had been bumped up to 200 he damn near hit the roof and immediately told me to stop taking it completely for a few days. He said I was in a thyroid storm and explained how life threatening it can be.

Folks I like Doctors and I trust Doctors but you need to keep an eye on them, I've now had two other Doctors tell me how dangerous it was for him to change my meds so drastically. The thyroid is a very important piece of your anatomy and when it's out of whack everything goes out of whack.

Amlodipine Oral: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Pictures, Warnings & Dosing - WebMD
Amlodipine belongs to a class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. Amlodipine is also used to prevent certain types of chest pain (angina). It may help to increase your ability to exercise and decrease the frequency of angina attacks.

Glad you are ok. Good thing you are observant with your health issues.

Yes sir I understand, I'm sure my day is on the horizon as well. We make brags about what we are going to do, but in the end some things are way more important. up

Yep, still two here in San Angelo

I take 50mcg every morning plus BP meds. Glad you're ok. I trust my primary physician but sometimes it helps to have a second opinion.

Mike, glad they have it figured out or time will tell and get it that way.

For my thyroid meds 100mcg now of Levothyroxine started off with 25 about 20 years ago each step up was monitored by the endocrinologist with testing along the way. I am on 2 blood pressure pills and another angina medication. My cardiologist, endocrinologist, nephrologist, pulmonologist and primary Dr are all in the same system now and can see the tests done by the others,

Meds out of whack can be as bad or worse than what is being treated.

Glad you got this figured out and hope all the docs finally get on the same page. There are lots of stories where one doc doesn't get records from another doc and there are med mistakes. Your deal is probably more concerning, docs disagreeing.

You were not in Thyroid Storm, you were suffering from hyperthyroidism.

Google Graves' Disease.

At least you did not have exophthalmos. Barbara Bush had it, but it was not permanent.

Your doc was practicing medicine. The thyroid is not an exact science.

No way I can forget. I take mine the same time I take my Celebrex for arthritis. Can't leave home without it.
